PCM1794 (1792) MONO - CONNECTION?

Hi All.

There are two option of the MONO connection:

1) To use separate I/U for each output (L+.L-, R+,R-), then 2 diff.amps (O1=L+ - L- and O2=R+ - R-), and then O=O1-O2.  Like in datasheet

2) To connect L+ with R+,  L- with R-, thento  use 2 I/V and then one diff.amp.

What is better?  I thnk: less stages=less distorions, less noise.

  • Hi, Alto,

We have optimized performance with the recommendations in the data sheet. I suggest that you follow our recommendations.

    -d2

  • Hi Don,

Did you try the second method, or this is only the supposition ?

According to my (and not only my) experience, for the regular (not mono) appliction, there are a lot of output schematics, that works 10 times better then schematic from datsheet. For example - using much better OP then old and cheap 5534, also using FDA in I/V and other solutions. Datasheet is only example, "at least is works"...

But for mono mode - I don't know.

Theoretically, It should be no difference, but who knows?

    Best Regards,

    Alto.

  • So, did anybody tried to connect DAC's output together in mono mode?
