Looper Pedal Design

Hi all,

I was recently an Intern at TI and am looking for some help in sourcing a DSP for my looper pedal. We have looked at some Codecs to this point with mini-DSP's associated with them. Our specs we aim to hit are:

-24 bit ADA

-44.1 kHz audio sampling rate

-35 minutes of loop time (total for all tracks)

-Stereo in/Stereo out as well as mono in/mono out 

-9W of power consumption (9V supply)

We also want to couple this DSP/CODEC with an MCU with which we can use to program an LCD screen, as well as track switching. 

Any help would be appreciated, so far we have looked at  

as a possible option. Thanks!

    Could you provide more information about the 35 minutes of loop time and the 9W of power consumption? The Codecs cannot storage music tracks and the power supply cannot reach the 9V.

    Thanks for the reply. The storage will be done in the form of an external SD card (at least that is the first thought we had), but we are not aiming to store on this device. The 35 minutes o loop time I guess then becomes a spec for the storage device we are going to use, and not this particular device. And as for the supply, that is also a spec not for this chip probably, but rather a power consumption spec for the whole pedal itself (see block diagram in attached Git repo). I should have done this before, but I am sending along the GitHub repo we have made for this project. This way you can see kind of the context that this particular device will be used in. After you have had a chance to view this, please let me know if there is a better device suited for our needs, keeping in mind that we want to eventually expand this project into a Multi-FX pedal that includes many other options besides looping (phaser, flanger, delay, echo, reverb, etc.). Thank you for your persistence on this and let us know if we are "barking up the right tree" so to speak.

    The TLV320AIC3256 has six single-ended or 3 fully-differential analog inputs. It covers operations from 8kHz to 192kHz stereo recording. The playback path offers signal processing blocks for filtering and effects. The high-power outputs can be configured in multiple ways, including stereo and mono BTL. The audio bus of the TLV320AIC3256 can be configured for left/right justified, I2S, DSP or TDM modes of operation. These modes are all MSB-first, with data width programmable as 16, 20, 24 or 32 bits.

    It has miniDSP which can use several audio algorithms (such noise reduction, AGC, DRC, filters, etc.). Additionally, it has a loopback control which can be used to route the audio data in to data out from the codec.

    Does this codec support all your requirements? Do you have an additional function that you need?

    Thank you for the reply. We have went ahead and purchased the eval board for this device. When we ultimately get the device, I will post all questions associated with the device (I am assuming we will have several) to this thread. Is this okay?
