DAC5682Z EVM drivers problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC5682Z, CDCM7005, ADS4249EVM, ADS4249

hello, good days.i am working with this board and altera Evaluation kits and i have a problem that i dónt know how to solve it.

there is a problem between the altera usb-blaster and the ftdi chip integrated in the dac EVM because they use the same file.

for this reason when i connect the DACEVM it says that there is anothers drivers in system (code 38).

well,the main problem:

unnistaling the driver and connecting the DACEVM it start to install the device and ask me about where it is the drivers location, but when i put the DACEVM pannel control instalation directory it says that there isn´t any compatible driver.

any who had the same problem?

how can i solve it?

thanks.

I am attaching DAC5682z EVM drivers. This folder should already exist in your DAC5682z EVM software installation directory. If it is not there, you can place it there. Hopefully, when you point the windows hardware manager to this folder, it would utilize the appropriate file. In case, there is an overlap with Altera's file, you can try renaming this driver's file.

  • thanks for reply and sorry for the delay but i was on holidays.

after some test i was able to install it but it is not working yet.

the new hardware installed is named "USB serial converter" and the drivers path is:

i don´t know if it is well installed and it take the correct drivers but the EVM control says that DAC5682 EVM is not detected and the board is correctly connected with power supply(like user´s guide says).

    i try to overwrite the ftd2xx.dll from C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\DAC5682z\DAC5682z Drivers to c:\windows\system32 but it doesn´t work.

in others computers it don´t install directly(it says there isn´t compatible drivers in C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\DAC5682z\DAC5682z Drivers and here there is!!).

the only solution that i know is to overwrite the 4 files in system32(but i only have 1).Could you send me,please?.

    thanks,

    best regards,

    julian.

    What OS are you using?

  • windows vista 32 bits, but i tried in xp 32 and it says the same.

  • hello again.i was trying in another computer what there isn´t any drivers who could entry in conflict with this drivers and the result is strange.

i install the software like says in user guide.

then power up the board and connect the usb cable.

the new hardware found window appear and make the steps described in user guide.

but when i put the path to C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\DAC5682z\DAC5682z Drivers it says that there isn´t drivers compatible but they are there.

i have downloaded the drivers you send me but is the same.

    i`m confused.

    what´s wrong?

    thanks

Find attached the snapshot of hardware device manager on a computer which recognizes the DAC5682z EVM. All the files that are needed are already posted on this thread in the "DAC5682z Drivers.zip" file. This snapshot was taken from a computer running WINXP.

Can you completely uninstall DAC5682z GUI and the associated driver (and any conflicting programs), start with a clean slate and then install the software that came with the CD. The software automatically installs any drivers that are needed. You should be able to see DAC5682z EVM among the USB controllers of your computer hardware profile.

If things still do not work, move the driver files manually to the location showed in the attached figure.

  • good days.

i was doing the things you say and the problem didn´t disappear.

i go to explain everything to comprobe to i am doing every well

i did a project to connect the texas DAC to a cyclone 3 evaluation board (photo) asign the pins in correct format(LVDS)  to the data, receiving the clock from CDCM7005 trougth FPGA_clockout signal and sending clock from FPGA to the DAC trougth INT_DCLCK.

you can see the jumpers asigned like says in user manual(external VXO,VFUSE...).

connect the clock to the board trougth the EXT_VXO_P in correct standard 1 Vrms.

the leds D2 and D1 are on.D3 is off.

connect the power to 1.8 and 3.3 with consume 0.06 and 0.4 amps repectively.i will evaluate the dac outputs

unnistall the DAC5682z GUI and the associated driver and intall everything again.

connect the usb cable to pc.and a windows says FTR245 USB FIFO.dont recognice the drivers.

i install manually to the drivers location and the system says that could not install FT245R USB FIFO.

i tried to put the drivers manually in the location C:\Windows\System32 like you say and when i go to install don´t recognize the drivers and ask me again for the location.i put the location and it says me that there is´nt compatible drivers.

i tried the same in a computer with xp and without conflicting drivers and is the same

the main cuestion is that the system dont recognice the driver FTD2XX.dll.

there any problem in the configuration i choose.

i hope there will be a solution.

    thanks.

The EVM comes with an FTDI FT245RL USB chip and it appears your OS is missing the drivers for this chip. Please visit the following URL and download the drivers:

    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

For an XP machine, the drivers are located at this url:

    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20808.zip

After downloading the drivers, let windows find and choose the appropriate driver for you after you have included *this* driver folder in windows search path (as shown in attached slides).

  • i had tried this solution few days ago and it recognice me the device like a usb serial converter(how appears in 3rd comment of this long post).

this solution install the drivers but not recognice the drivers from texas DAC drivers.

when i run the EVM control pannel it still says the board is not connected.

i saw the slides and dont say where i have to put the drivers downloaded.i put it in c:windows/sytem32/drivers

    i hope your reply

    thanks

  • Hello,

    I follow all your instructions.

The usb cable is seen as "usb serial converter " not "Texas Instruments DAC" and the EVM still didn't detected.

    I don't know what to do .

I need to find solution quicky because i cant work with my FPGA if i dont solve this probleme

    Regards

  • Julian

Find attached the USB serializer application which should make the "usb serial converter" appear as "Texas Instruments DAC". Please follow the following instructions:

    - Uninstall completely DAC5682z GUI software (or any other TI GUI that has been created in labview)

    - Install the USB serializer program, follow the instructions shown in the .png file and program the EVM USB. There is no need to power up the EVM for this step. Only USB cable needs to be connected to the EVM.

    - Install DAC5682z and let windows search for the drivers after you have included the driver folder in DAC5682z installation in its rch path. Power up the EVM. Check if DAC5682z EVM now appears in the device manager of your computer.

    - If you still cannot get the EVM to work, kindly return it to your TI Vendor and ask for a replacement. We will be happy to send you a new one.

    Regards,

  • Mr  Hamza,

I download the application you sent, install it  but i think this application didnt work because only thing i can do is changing "TI EVM".

I cant open , "file" , or "Edit" or anything. When i clich on "arrow pointer", anything happen. What's wrong?

How coud i know that i correctly programm the EVM?

Ps:I unistall DAC5682z GUI before doing all this .

    Thanks

  • hello, i am very happy.

i did the intrucctions and it works.

the cuestion (i think) was that the eeprom was erased and didn´t has any identifier to take the correct drivers.

afer write the with the usb serializer i had to unnistall the usb serial converter to then plug in the board and start to install the correct drivers.

then when open the EVM control it was here:

    "Connected to DAC5682 EVM!

    Successful DAC5682z register communication!"

now i can start to job with this board.

i hope don´t have more problems

    thanks again,

    julian

  • Hello,

I m happy too. My board works . I have the same message  like Mr julian : Connected to DAC5682 EVM! Successful DAC5682z register communication .

I thinks i have some problems with the first computer i used. I tried with another computer and its work.

i hope , this is my  last problems with this board.

Thanks Mr Hamza for your help and availabily.

    Regards

  • in the usb_ser aplication when i run it , it  give me back the new parameters how it was configure and then all works.

you're right, i´m not able to be sure  if the board was configured but now it works.

sorry for not be more helpfully.

  • Hello -- I'm having similar troubles getting this EVM to work with XP x64.  Are there any tips?  (So far, the usb serializer application has not helped, nor did fishing for the x64 drivers from FTDI.

Edit:  Nevermind.  I fixed it by downloading the driver from FTDI http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm and then edited the the inf file inside their driver to recognize the EVM.  I attached a .zip file containing just the .inf file.  This was done to FTDI's driver version 2.08.12 for Windows.

In that attached zip, I included two versions of the inf -- before and after my edits in case someone needs to diff 'em and port the small changes to other driver versions.    (It should work for both 32-bit and 64-bit, but I've only tested on x64.)

    - David

Note: I updated the attached .zip file on Mar 24 to include an update to the other .inf file contained within FTDI's driver.  (The second .inf file lets the DAC5682ZEVM appear as some sort of serial port, though I haven't investigated it yet.)

    ftdi_ftd2xx_driver_cdm20812_inf_files.zip
  • I've got the same problem with my EVM and the USB serializer totally solves the problem.

A suggestion when installing the driver if you have already installed Altera FPGA development kit USB driver:

The FTD2XX files overlap with the Altera driver files. To solve this I changed inside the .inf file by replacing all keyword 'FTD2XX' to 'FTD2XX_TI' and renamed it. Then change all the FTD2XX.xxx files in your installed DAC5682Z driver file folder to FTD2XX_TI.xxx (specifically FTD2XXUN need to be changed  to FTD2XX_TIUN). And now install the driver by searching the driver from the specific forder (do not use automatically installation because that will be using temporary file in your system32 folder to install the driver which you didnot change the names), there will no longer any conflict with Altera USB drivers.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hamza,

When using the "usb serial converter" I had also ADS 4249 EVM connected to my PC. Since running the program the ADC EVM board is recognized as "DAC 5682" and the communication fails. I wonder if you have any idea how I can rewrite the initial data to the corresponding FTDI EEPROM. I am using Windows 7 x64.

    regards,

    Hadi

  • Hi Hadi,

FTDI has a program called FT_Prog that can be used to program the EEPROM. This can be downloaded from the utilities section on their website. After opening FT_Prog, you'll need to click the magnifying glass icon to find all FTDI USB devices. Then find the ADS4249 EVM (only plug this board in) and set the String Descriptor to "ADS4249EVM". The VID and PID need to be set to 0x0403 and 0x6001, respectively.

After setting these options, click the lightning bolt to open the programming window. Only select the ADS4249 EVM USB chip and click "Program" then "Cycle Ports".

    Regards,
    Matt Guibord

  • Matt,

ADS4249 EVM is up again. I had to use a system with no DAC5682 driver issue to reprogram it. Thank you!
