eZdsp f28335 driver software

Good morning all,

I am currently using the eZdsp f28335 development board from Spectrum Digital, I am using Code Composer Studio V4 and have had the board up and running on my desk top computer. However the problem seems to start when I try to connect the board to my new windows 7 laptop that the university kindly bought me so I could test the development board in the lab. Once I have built the example project I try to debug the project and the following error message appears

"Error initializing emulator"

I have un-installed and re-installed code composer to no avail, I have tried to install the drivers manually again with no luck. Is windows 7 too new for the drivers that were included with code composer v4 and is there any way of solving this problem?

Many thanks,

  • Steve,

CCS4 is supported on Windows 7 however we recommend installing in a folder other than Program Files. Please check this article:http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/FAQ_-_CCSv4#Q:_Is_Windows_7_supported.3F

I would also suggest making sure you have the latest version of CCS v4.2.3, which you can update to by going to Help->Software Updates->Find and Install, or you can get the separate full downloads from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

  • Aarti,

Thank you for the information. I have uninstalled code composer and re-installed the software out with the program files folder. I have still not been able to connect from the target board to the laptop. I have been into the device manager, it recognises the TMS320x28xx eZdsp, however, when you right click and enter properties, the device status says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). I have also tried to install the drivers manually and once execution has started a little box appears titled DSK start-up and the message "Failed: USB device is not enumerated or plugged in" which the USB cable is plugged in at both end with the power applied. As I have stated before the board is working on an older desktop.

Can you please provide me with any alternative solutions?

     Many thanks,

  • Steven,

We know this configuration works in general (F28335 eZdsp with CCS 4.2.3 on Windows 7 using on-board USB emulation) and in fact, we just recently tested it to confirm.

It sounds like your drivers did not install properly but I'm not sure why especially since you've tried the installation a couple of times already. One thing I would mention is to make sure any anti-virus software installed on the PC is disabled when installing CCS. Every once in a while we hear of conflicts with anti-virus software although it is not common. I'm sorry I don't have any specific suggestions, but you may want to refer to Spectrum Digital's troubleshooting guide for additional tips and also contact them directly to see if they have any other suggestions.

  • Steven, I have encountered the same problem as you..please help me how to solve this problem...

  • Hi I have been encountering the same problem as you and I have a hunch that this problem is due to the fact that the windows we are using is 64 bit where as the board drivers are only for 32 bit windows. Could you check your windows and confirm that its 64 bit. Thanks

  • Hello Everyone,

I have the same problem as some of you, I can't install the USB controllers, I thinks it is because I'm using 64-bit windows 7.

Hope you can provide the suitable USB-controller.

    Thanks.

  • Hello TI,

It would really be kind if you can confirm this fact... I have actually ordered an eZdsp F28335 board, and, in 2014, not supporting major OSes is a no-go. I guess you could at least flag it as obsolete or w/e.

But perhaps you could provide an x84 driver ?

Thank you to light me, i can't believe you are not clearly stating if this is or not compatible.

  • Back on this topic.

Just to notify others users stucked in this problem, it works with VirtualBox USB passthrough, so you can create a VM with Windows XP and access the eZdsp board.

I'm not sure for now how it is working (understand, if it have side effect i'm not actually able to notice, because i'm starting a project based on this demo board), but at least code composer is able to connect the target and start blank code.

  • Hi Steven,

I am also experiencing the same problem. Were you able to sort out the problem?

    Regards

    Shameem
