Can CCS increment a build number in a txt file, then include result in c code?

Hi,

I have a customer who is using CCSv4 and would like to automatically increment a build number in a text file each time he rebuilds his project, then include that modified file in the source code of his MSP430 project. He tried using some project build settings (Pre-build steps) but is having a lot of trouble.

Is there a simple way to do this, or perhaps an example project setup or scripts that he could leverage?

This is all the information I have from him at the moment, let me know if there are some key questions I should ask him to get you enough information to help.Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Katie,

The pre- and post- build steps can run any command line executable, but I couldn't find a way to do this using batch programming. Therefore the script itself would need to be written in any scripting language - awk or Perl are common choices to deal with text files.
