Error connecting to the target: Unknown device

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438A

Hi,

This is my first experience with MSP430FET. I am using CCS v5.3 on XP 32 bit machine. I am connecting MSP-430 FET with TI MSP-TS430PZ5x100 experimenter board.

I have a MSP430F5438A chip mounted on the board.

Problem:- When I first tried to connect FET with CCS, it asked for firmware upgrade. I did that and it seemed to have upgraded FET firmware. But after that it is not recognizing my device.

I tried following:

1) When i disconnect the experimenter board it still says that target unknown device

2) When i disconnect the FET, it is able to recognize that FET is not connected and flags FET not found.

Can any one help? Do I need to power the experimenter board or I can rely on the FET powering the board. Note that I have made correct jumper connection for FET to power the board. However, when I measure any voltage on the VCC pin I do not see any voltage from the FET.

Additional Question:

If i externally power the experimenter board then do i need to move from 4-wire to 2-wire JTAG connection?

Please help me.

Sincerely,

Nandish
