Can't import MSP430 example

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP430WARE

I am trying to setup CCS for use with the MSP430 Launchpad eval kit (MSP-EXP430F5529LP). I installed CCS 6.0.1.00040, and downloaded the examples. I did get some warnings about my virus protection being on, but I don't think there is much I can do about that. Whenever I try to install either of the examples I get the following error:

Error: Device is either 'null' or unrecognized.

I have no idea what this means, and a search of the forums didn't turn up anything. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Edit, I meant to say "import" the example, not "install" the example.

  • Hi Jo-jo,

do you mean when trying to debug?

Do you see any problem in the device manager?

How did you import the example?  Did you set up a target configuration file? ( ie does your project have a ccxml file?)

    Best regards,

    Lisa

  • No not when trying to debug, when importing.

I don't think the drivers for the debugger are installed, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

I can't import the example, that's what the question is all about. I don't have a project yet, I am trying to import one. I don't know what a ccxml file is, but there doesn't seem to be one in the example code.

I'm following the launchpad development kit user's guide to try to set up CCS. One thing that was different was that the guide says to select "Import Existing CCS Eclipse Project," but I don't have that option. I assume it's because the guide was written for an older version of CCS, so I selected "Project->Import CCS Project."

  • Hi Jo-Jo,

Import CCS project is what you want.  However the esiest thing to do is go to Help->Getting Started->Examples.

If you don'ts see MSP430Ware in the drop down.  Do the same thing Help->Getting Started but go to App Centre to get MSP430Ware.

You will also need to be sure you installed with msp support selected!

Please first check the training here:

  • I ended up reinstalling, and now it works. I installed it a while ago, so maybe I had not installed MSP support the first time.

  • Hi Jo-Jo

great, thanks for the update and happy to hear.

All the best with the msp!
