CCS 6.1.3 PC trace for a Cortex-A8 doesn't record any data values, when select to trace Data

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3359

When investigating a problem with nested interrupt handling on the Cortex-A8 in a AM3359 attempted to use the Hardware Trace Analyzer in CCS 6.1.3.00033 to watch reads from the INTCPS_INTC_SIR_IRQ register, to be able see which interrupts were occurring.

As the CCS Hardware Trace Analyzer doesn't allow Data Variable Tracing on the Cortex-A8, saying not applicable on the selected CPU, attempted to use the PC trace instead using the following setup using the ETB buffer:

The highlighted instruction in the Disassembly view reads from the INTCPS_INTC_SIR_IRQ register and the following instruction writes the value onto the stack. The PC trace was set to capture over the range of these two instructions and Data was ticked on the "What to trace" selection in the hope that would record the contents of the INTCPS_INTC_SIR_IRQ register.

When the captured trace was viewed the Read Address and Write Address were shown but the Read Data and Write Data were blank:

The Read Address is that of the INTCPS_INTC_SIR_IRQ register and the Write Address is an address on the stack which shows the PC Trace was enabled on the required instructions.

Given that the CCS 6.1.3 PC Trace allowed a Data value to be selected to be trace but no data values are shown is this either:

a) A bug / limitation in CCS.

b) A limitation in the Cortex-A8 trace.
