Can't set breakpoints after upgrading to 4.1.3.38

I recently upgraded to CCS 4.1.3.38. Since then I am unable to set breakpoints. When I try and set a hardware breakpoint I get the following message.

Error programming AET job: This task cannot be accomplished with the existing AET resources.

I tried removing all the breakpoints and re-adding one, but this did not seem to work. I am using a XDS510 USB emulator with a TMX320F28335 DSP. Any suggestions?

It could be that the version of the firmware programmed into the XDS510 is older than what CCS expects. Try unplugging the USB emulator and restarting CCS, this should update the firmware.

I just tried unplugging the USB emulator and restarting code composer studio. I didn't specifically see it say anything about updating the firmware and the breakpoint problem still exists. Is there a way to see what version of the firmware the USB emulator is running?

For me I will see a little USB enumeration dialog pop up on the bottom right of my screen when CCS connects to the debugger the first time after the usb cable has been pulled.

I do see the enumeration message when I unplug and replug in the usb cable. I've noticed that I can set the software breakpoints for the functions that I am running from internal ram, but I can not set any hardware breakpoints. Most of my functions, however are run directly from the built in flash, so software breakpoints are not really an option.

Pulling the cable fixed the issue for another customer who was having this issue however I have been able to reproduce the problem today and pulling the cable is not helping me. If I use a Spectrum 510USB I can't set any hardware breakpoints. I am following up with our emulation team as well as the team from Spectrum.

I was able to get things going on my machine by dropping in the latest drivers from spectrum. Can you check the version info of sdgo28xusb.dvr which is present in \ccsv4\emulation\drivers?

Unfortunately, I already rolled back to an earlier version of CCS. This removed the breakpoint problem. The driver version currently on my machine is 3.69.4.0. Is there a leter version that I can retry with the latest Code Composer Studio.

We believe the problem was with the Spectrum update site. Basically it had some old drivers in it. The 4.1.3 install has the correct drivers but the update site had a package that to CCS looks like it was newer but actually had older drivers. That package has now been removed from the SD update site so if you were to install again there should be no problem.

I am also going to attach a zip of the drivers to this thread for anyone else who needs to patch in the correct drivers (contents go in \ccsv4\emulation\drivers).

Remember to unplug and replug the USB cable after updating the drivers so that CCS will update the firmware on the pod.

I recently updated CCS to V4.1.3.38 and have the same issue with a BLACKHAWK USB2000 pod. The driver file \ccsv4\emulation\drivers\bhemu28x.drv has the version 2.1.4.0. Do you have any drivers files to update for this version too?

Just send a message to Blackhawk. Most likely they will have to do a minor change to their c28x driver and send out an update. I will give you a status update when I know more.

Try renaming ctools.dll in ccsv4\emulation\analysis\bin to something like _ctools.dll This will disable advanced h/w watchpoints but I believe you will still get a couple of basic program h/w breakpoints. I haven't tried this as I don't have access to the h/w this morning.

Once Blackhawk posts their update you can rename it back.

TI provided the updated information to us and we have posted a incremental patch (v4.1.3.3) for Blackhawk XDS510 emulators (USB510/USB510L/USB2000) and C28x devices. This is compatible with CCS v4.1.3.x.

You can locate/install the update using the eclipse update manager (part of the CCS IDE). From the main menu, choose Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install...

Yes, but when I select the updates, I get the error:

"Blackhawk CCSv4 Emulation (4.0.1.2) requires feature "com.blackhawkdsp.ccstudio.emulation (4.0.1.1)"

and so it won't let me go ahead with the updates.

The fix is in our incremental patch (v4.1.3.3). Don't select the older updates, which are not compatible with the newer CCS version.

Just installed "blackhawk CCSv4 emulation 4.2.0.8", using update manager.

It seems that breakpoints are working again, after renaming ctools.dll back to its original name.
