CCS: CCS Build hangs waiting for "Migrating legacy project"

When CCS is first started, I can build a project once. The second time I try to build, The C/C++ Indexer starts running and a window appears saying that "The user operation is waiting for "Migrating legacy project..." to complete.". It never completes, and the project is not a legacy project. The only way to stop it is by killing CCS with Task Manager (I'm running Windows 10). I have tried deleting and reinstalling the project but that doesn't help. I really don't have the time to delete and reinstall CCS. I don't need the C Indexer (as I don't like the editor) but I can't find where to disable it. Any tips?

Hi Dave,
There was an earlier post that reported a similar issue. In that thread I gave links on how to disable the indexer:

However I am now concerned that it is not an aberration given that you are the second person to report this today. What version of CCS are you using and what kind of project is giving the issue (is is some example from an SDK)?

Hi Ki, I am using version 7.3.0.00019. The project does use mmWave SDK 1.1.0.2, but it's not an SDK demo, it's my own demo. I first noticed it late last week.

what if i don't want to disable indexer?
I tried to create new projects, re-created the workspace, but anyway "Migrating legacy project.."

I am also experiencing this same problem. Indexer appears to start and hang along with "migrating legacy..." task....

I have to kill and restart CCS several times before it becomes usable.

There must have been a regression with the Eclipse CDT indexer. It has always had various performance issues but it seems to have gotten especially bad recently. You can try disabling the autorefresh to minimize impact on performance as discussed in the below post:

This problem started with ccs7. It's not like just slowing down the indexer, it looks like a bug. I hope the guys from ti will fix it soon.

On ccs6 it was all good. "Migrating legacy project" did not come up.

However, ccs6 also had their own problems. For example, "ctrl+space" did not work in headers.

While the best of all ccs is ccs5.5....

Yes, it does look like a regression. Note that the indexer is not something maintained by TI but the Eclipse community. Because we do not have complete control over it (we can submit a fix but it has to get reviewed and approved by the community), bug fixes and such tend to take more time than if the issue is with something developed directly by TI. But hopefully this is something we can get improved soon.

I installed CDT9.2 and this helped. Tried to install CDT9.3, CDT9.4 CCS not working properly.
