I am trying to install Code Composer Studio V7.4.0.00015 (the latest), and my installation is hanging at the step "Registering target content products".

I am using Windows 10 64 bit, and I'm also running Windows Defender antivirus and Windows firewall. I tried disabling those before installation, but I was still seeing the same issue. Installation logs are below:

Are you installing from the web installer or offline installer? If it is the web installer, could you give the offline installer a try?

When starting a new installation please be sure to install to an empty directory (ie delete any existing content prior to installation).

If it is the offline installer that fails, could you please zip up the /install_logs folder and attach it here?

3000.install_logs.zipI was using the offline installer, and that's where it was failing. I made sure to delete the C:\ti directory before trying installation again, so it should be clean. /install_logs folder is attached, thank you!

The install logs seem to indicate you are running the Web installer (see line 67 of ccs_setup_7.4.0.00015_install.log). The offline installer would say Offline instead.

When you download the offline installer, you would first extract the zip file to a temporary directory and then run the ccs_setup_7.4.0.00015.exe within the extracted directory. Is that what you did?

I thought I had been running the offline installer, but I redownloaded the offline installer, extracted, and then ran again to be sure. I'm still seeing the same issue, here are the install logs:

Hi David,

Could you please check to see if there's a .metadata/.log file (note the . before both directory and filename) in C:/Users/DWhisler/AppData/Local/Temp/ccs_178e9712-dde1-4c6f-5011-1aabc401d76e/workspace? Could you post it here?

We have seen this issue a couple of times, but have been unable to reproduce it here. If you kill off the tclsh running in the background, your CCS install should be ok. I make this suggestion as a workaround so you can go ahead with using CCS, while we try to figure this out.

For the workaround to install, which tclsh process are you referring to, and at what point during the install process should I kill it? The only one I see is Tclsh Application in the Apps section of task manager, and when I kill that the setup tool disappears.

Yes, killing the tclsh will exit the setup tool. The installation is complete (except for shortcuts) at this point. You should be able to use CCS and I'll get back to you regarding why you're having this problem, hopefully they'll be able to figure out what's causing the hang here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi David,

Could you please try running the following command, in the <ccs>/ccsv7/eclipse/ directory:

eclipsec -nosplash -data workspace -application com.ti.common.core.initialize

and then please post the following:

the output of the command in the terminal window
the workspace/.metadata/.log file
and any .log files in the <ccs>/ccsv7/eclipse/configuration/ directory

I ran that command, and it seemed to hang at "Searching for new extension-sites to install", I left it running for about 20 minutes but it didn't seem to complete. Here's the command output before it froze, and the log files.

Hi David,

Thanks for the log files. They don't show any failures, so this might be a deadlock. It would be helpful if you could take some time to generate a thread stack dump during the hang.

The steps to generate a thread stack dump are described at . The section "Using jvisualvm" is the best approach for our case.

In summary:

You'll need to download a v1.8 JDK (not JRE, but JDK) [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html].
You'll need to edit the file <ccs>/ccsv7/eclipse/eclipse.ini in a text editor, and add the line "-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote" at the very end of the file.
Then launch the command "eclipsec -nosplash -data workspace -application com.ti.common.core.initialize" in the <ccs>/ccsv7/eclipse/ directory.
Once you've reproduced the hang, launch the <jdk>/bin/jvisualvm app, and in it you'd be able to find your eclipse application in the LHS tree, then open the Threads tab, and click the Thread Dump button. That would generate a textual stack dump, which could help us debug this issue.

Hi David,

Here is another, simpler, way of collecting the thread dump during the hang:

Run the "initialize" command, but pipe its output into a text file, I.e: "eclipsec -nosplash -data workspace -application com.ti.common.core.initialize > out.txt"
Now, when the hang happens, click Ctrl + Pause/Break in the terminal window. Click it a few times. Each time, a full thread dump will be captured into out.txt.
Then post the generated out.txt file here.

I wanted to follow-up to see if you'd had a chance to collect the thread dumps requested by Baltasar. If you are able to, they would be a big help for us to investigate the cause of the CCS hang.
