CCS: Update of Blackhawk USB200 fails

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1802

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

when I try to use my USB200 I get a message that I should update the firmware. I tried to do so, but I get the following error:

C:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds2xx>xds2xx_conf.exe get xds2xxu 0
boardRev=2
ipAddress=0.0.0.0
ipConfig=dhcp
ipGateway=255.255.255.255
ipNetmask=255.255.255.255
productClass=XDS2XX
productName=XDS200
serialNum=00:0F:D2:05:06:32
swRev=1.0.0.5
hostCPU=AM1802
emuCtrlType=Bit bang
extMemType=SDRAM
portUSB=true
portENET=false
portWIFI=false
portRS232=false
EnableUSBSerial=true
CurrentMeasure=false

C:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds2xx>xds2xx_conf.exe update xds2xxu 0 xds200_firmware_v1008.bin
ERROR: failed firmware update
Error : test failed

The error is also there on another computer and also with version 6.0.83.1 of the emulator package.
I also tried different USB ports. There is no target connected.

When I try to update within CCSv7 then I get:

But there is for sure no second probe connected. I verified that by "xds2xx_conf.exe get xds2xxu 1", which cannot find a probe.

What should I do now?

Best regards,
Thomas.

  • Thomas,

    It is certainly a strange scenario you are experiencing. Can you check if the entries in the Control Panel match the screenshot at the Troubleshooting section of the XDS200 page?
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS200

    Unfortunately I don't have a Blackhawk USB200 to test here, but its update operations should be common to all variants.

    It seems you are using Windows 7 - can you confirm that? If so, what is the exact version? Check below to find out.

    If I recall correctly, the firmware update operation is not mandatory and can be bypassed - this will help you keep working without disruption.

    Rafael
  • Hi Rafael,

    the output I included was from a Windows 10 computer. I tried with Windows 7 over the weekend and got the same result. Unfortunately I do not have a WinXP computer at hand to try that. Would you expect som difference there?!

    The device also shows up in the control panel like on the picture. I just have different COM ports (7 & 8), but that should not matter I guess.

    Maybe I should try to contact Blackhawk and see if tey have somthing.

    Best regards,
    Thomas.

  • Thomas,

    Thanks for confirming the OS being used and the Control Panel configurations; of all things, I would expect that XP would be the least likely to work - we don't officially support it for years now.

    We have been using these probes in Windows 7 and 10 quite thoroughly without issues - however, I will try to find a USB200 here from Blackhawk and report back if I find anything.

    One last resort before contacting Blackhawk is to try and fully reinstall the Windows drivers. This is shown in the section "Troubleshooting" of the XDS200 page I sent before. Sometimes this can repair some things - especially the strange message about multiple XDS200s. Apart from this, I really don't have much more ideas.

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Hi Rafael,

    I tried to reinstall the driver, but it keeps the same.
    Anyway, thanks for your help!

    Best regards,

    Thomas.

  • Thomas,

    I wasn't yet able to find a USB200. In order to not waste time, I would suggest you to contact Blackhawk at this time.

    Regards,
    Rafael
  • Hi Rafael,

    I did that already.
    The response is that I have to send the unit in if I want to have the update. Alternatively I can use it without the update, as you said.

    Best regards,
    Thomas.
