CCS/CC2640R2F: After I update CCS to the latest version, and open workspace_v8 (there're project imported by the old version CCS), doing rebuild of any project will cause warning

Let me try to reproduce this scenario. To help me do this, please clarify a few things:

- Then opened the same workspace with CCS 8.1 
- Rebuilding project generates warning about compiler version
- Trying to install the specified compiler version results in CCS not being able to start up
- Trying to rename project again results in an error

No. I uninstall 8.0 before install 8.1, so 8.1 is installed to default directory (c:ti).

The whole thing can be separate into two part:

1.Unable to start up ccs after install another version of compiler 

2.opened the workspace that was originally created with CCS 8.0.0 using CCS 8.1.0,reports warning which lead to error after rename the project. Question 2 can be simplified to eliminate the warning which in turn solve the problem of unable to rename the project.

answer:

1. My ccs is installed on window7_64byte environment ,I tried more than 10 times, it doesnt support to install another version of compiler with update menu(check for updates, install code generation tool,etc), once do so, ccs will unable to start up.

2.To solve question 2, user need another version of compiler while keep the default version(installed when install ccs), but due to question 1, u cant update or install compiler by ccs update menu, then, you need to install the compiler you need manually. Download the correct version of compiler and install it to the default directory , choose the right version of compiler in the projects built settings menu.

I was unable to reproduce this. After opening the CCS 8.0 workspace in CCS 8.1 and seeing the warning message, I installed the 16.9.6.LTS compiler version (which is the original version the project was created for) using Help->Install Code Generation Compiler Tools menu, and was able to start up CCS successfully after that. 

Do you see the problem with starting up CCS after installing *any* compiler version using the CCS update menu? If so, I wonder if there may be an issue with your basic CCS installation itself.

I think u r right, there's some issues with my basic CCS installation. After I solved the problems mentioned in the title, I worked several days without restarting the computer. But this morning I restart the computer and fail opening CCS with double left click. I tried right click and chose "run as administrator", it worked once in three times...

Could you help me find out what's wrong? I'm using windows 7 64 byte system.

Unfortunately, there isn't a specific or straightforward way to find out what could be wrong in your installation or environment that is triggering the type of issues you are seeing but are not seen on other machines, for instance. If you are willing, you could try a new installation of CCS in a different directory. You do not have to uninstall your current installation if you simply reinstall to a different directory. If the reason for your problems is a corrupted installation, then a new clean installation should help. If the same problems continue to persist in a clean install of CCS, then the problem may be related to something else in your PC environment.

Yesterday I install ccs on another PC, the problem shows again:Unable to start up ccs after install another version of compiler, in fact i cant even see the compiler i installed,the only way is download and install compiler manually. My PC is also using windows 64bit system, whats your system version? How could we make sure wheather this problem related to system or not?

please, look at the picture below:

When you install CCS8.0 select the install folder like on the picture.

Select c:\ti\ccs810 when installing CCS8.1.

Always install CCS with admin privileges.

Uninstall all CCS installs.

Delete TI folder within your %AppData% folder.

Try fresh new installation starting with CCS8.0.

Everything should be o.k.

I tried what u said, but it didnt work.

My steps:

1.uninstall ccs

2.uninstall sdk

3.delete c:\ti

4.delete c:\user\ti (there's no appdata folder)

5.install ccs with admin previlege 

6.install compiler 16.9.7(help->install code generation compiler tools->find 16.9.7 and install

7.open a project, right click on the project folder find show build settings, 16.9.7didnt show up

8.Help->about code compiler studio->Installation Details, there's 16.9.7

So the problem is, ccs thinks 16.9.7 is already installed but it didnt show up when choosing a compiler in the project menu.

I found the folder which 18.1.2 lies (c:\ti\ccs810\ccsv8\tools\compiler), there is only 18,1,2 and 16.9.7 doesnt show up

where am i wrong?

ad 7) which compiler ver. shows up? tell me your LaunchPad / MCU model, which project do you try to deal with?

Only the version 18.1.2 shows up. I'm using CC2640R2F with project SimplePeripheral.
