Dear TI guide,

I have a question for AC/DC SMPS.

I need to design a SMPS circuit board respond below requestion.

- Input: AC (85V~235V)

- Output: DC (12V, 5A)

- Output Efficiency: Follow CoC Tier 2 (No load: <= 0.15W, 10% Efficiency Load: >=79%, Full load: >=89%

I tried to use WEBENCH to reference design, but all refer circuit have efficiency result: under 90% (full load), under 79% (10% Eff. Load).

So can you guide me a IC or Circuit to respond above requestion?

Hi Nguyen,

Sorry for the delay.

The device LM5023 meets your requirements but it is still under work on Webench.
You can refer the datasheet( www.ti.com/.../lm5023.pdf ) and EVM (www.ti.com/.../snva686.pdf) of the device which is designed for nearly same output power ~ 65 W, 19 V, 3.43 compared to the requirement 12 V, 5 A.
( there might not be many changes in the final schematic for 12 V, 5A, as compared to 19 V ,3.43 A EVM schematic)

Thank for your support.

Sorry for this late.

But I want to change Input AC (90~265V).

And follow CoC Tier 2 to this design.

Can you check other IC can meet my request.

Hi Nguyen,

Currently we do not have devices that support these efficiency requirements.

You can try creating the designs using the below steps.

1) Enter the design conditions as shown below and click on "start design"

2) Click on Efficiency column to sort the devices based on "highest" or "lowest" efficiency .

I very glad to recieve your guide line. But I think IC UCC28710 can not meet CoC Tier 2 standard.

This is my hard, I have not found yet IC of Texas Instrument to respond this requirement.

I know that I have to calculate more component to improve efficiency, but I need find a IC can respond to this requirement nearly.

Hi Nguyen
Here are some more products that you can consider based on recommendations from our product team.
Many of TI controller ICs are designed for meeting the CoC Tier2 requirement. For example UCC28704.
For 12V/5A as this is a relative higher power converter, the latest released UCC28780 and UCC24612 should help you meet the standard.
Or you can try using UCC28740 with SR drivers such as UCC24612 or UCC24630 to meet the efficiency requirement.
