DLP3010EVM-LC: "Write pattern order table entry" does not work, when using more than one illuminator

Part Number: DLP3010EVM-LC

Hi,

We are evaluating DLP3010EVM-LC, while mainly using the internal pattern mode.

(Also note that we have replaced the optical engine with another one from one the TI 3rd parties)

We've updated the firmware with all the relevant patterns so that we can use some of them, by only modifying the pattern order table entries.(Advanced Tool)

It works as expected, but when we turned on more than one illuminatorthe projector does not respond or does not work as expected.

(e.g. when turning on all (Red Illuminator, Green Illuminator, Blue Illuminator) settings )

Please note that what we want to achieve is not the full RGB mode, but more like projecting the greyscale pattern by using several LEDs simultaneously.

(...as using RGB colors severely increases the pre/post/illumination duration)

Q1. Is this expected behavior? or is it a type of glitches which is only related to the 3rd party optical engine?

Q2. If this is the expected behavior, what should I do to turn on all the LEDs simultaneously?

I believe this should be possible as it's only a matter of turning the LEDs on. Those LED rays are already reaching the DMD as we can see in the attached image.

PS. Fortunately, we were able to contact the local support staff from TI, so that we can ask some more questions. I was writing this article, so leaving it anyway.

  • Hello Kim,

Welcome to TI E2E forums and thanks for showing interest in DLP technology.

In internal pattern mode of DLPC347X chipset, we support only 2 types of illumination - monochrome (Red/Green/Blue) or RGB (R,G,B gets turned on sequentially, at a time only 1 of them will be on.)

Seems like you want to turn on multiple LEDs simultaneously, that is something which is not supported by the chipset.

    Regards,
