DLPDLCR2000EVM: Splashscreen shows when not connected to BBBW but doesn't when connected

Part Number: DLPDLCR2000EVM

I have a brand new DLP and BBBW and have followed the quickstart tutorial. I have installed the latest Debian image for the BBBW following the link in the tutorial but when I power both devices (no matter what order or both simultaneously) the display does not show anything. If I power the DLP on its own, I see the splash screen. i2cdetect -r -y 2 doesn't show the device address. Is there an additional step between installing Debian and being able to detect the device connected to the beagle?

If I navigate to /opt/scripts/device/bone/capes/DLPDLCR2000 the file dlp_lightcrafter-1.0.19.tar.gz is present. Should this be unpacked? Unpacking it didn't seem to do anything. I've read every post I think is relavent but haven't been able to resolve the issue.

I have made no modifications to the DLP or beagle.

  • Hello Matt,

Welcome to the E2E forum! Thank you for your business.

Did you install the "Flasher" version of the latest Debian image and wait 20-30 minutes for it to complete? More details on this process here. Additionally, when you ping your BBB from the command window, does it return with the BBB address?

  • Hi Maxine,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have flashed the img exactly as described. I flash the image to the SD card (specifically BBBW-blank-debian-8.9-lxqt-4gb-armhf-2017-08-01-4gb.img.xz using belenaEtcher) and insert it into the beaglebone black wireless. I hold down s2 while I power it up and hold it until the lights start to flash in sequence. After about 10 minutes the lights stop flashing and all the lights go off. I then remove the SD card and power the beagle with the DLP attached and powered. I can ping the beagle from windows using putty, connect and control the terminal no problem.

The DLP does nothing after the D2 LED switches off. No splashscreen at any point while it's connected to the beaglebone.

The image is definitely flashed to the beaglebone and as I said in the original post, there are DLP files where I would expect them to be.

Any further advice would be greatly appreciated because I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    Kind regards,

    Matt

  • Hello Matt,

I have had success using the"AM3358 Debian 10.3  4GB eMMC IoT Flasher" image. Are there any instances of your D3 LED switching on?

In order to get an output, I suggest trying two things: 1) first connecting the EVM to 5V power, waiting 5 seconds, then connecting the BBB to power via the USB and 2) connecting power to the BBB first via USB, wait for it to fully boot, then plugging in 5V to the EVM. I have found that several attempts may be needed to achieve a successful connection.

    Best,

    Maxine

  • Hi Maxine,

I flashed that image just now and it's working! I don't understand though because I did nothing else differently so maybe there's an incompatibility with my beagle and the debian version on the link in the tutorial. Thanks though, I can finally make a start!

    Cheers!

    Matt
