DLPC3470: What are differences between the DLP3010EVM-LC and DLP2010EVM-LC schematic design except for the chip difference e.g. DLPC3478 vs DLPC3470

Part Number: DLPC3470
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3010LC, DLPC3478, DLP3010EVM-LC, DLP2010, DLP2010LC

Hi,

We are currently developing DLPC3470 custom display board while checking the reference design for the evaluation board DLP2010EVM-LC.

While doing so, we've also noticed that DLP3010EVM-LC has a very similar design to the DLP2010EVM-LC, even though it uses DLPC3478 and it is for the DLP3010LC

My question is,

- What are differences between the DLP3010EVM-LC and DLP2010EVM-LC schematic design/board design(gerber) except for the chip difference e.g. DLPC3478 vs DLPC3470

- Can we use this custom board for the DMD3010-LC, which is initially developed to be used with the DLPC3470, if we simply replace DLPC3470 chip with DLPC3478 chip?

Thank you

  • Hello Kim,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP® technology.

Our expert will get back to you soon and let you know the difference from HW perspective between 3470 and 3478. Appreciate your patience

  • Hello User,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP® technology.

1.) There should be little difference between the EVMs. The controller and DMDs are the biggest differences between the two.

2.) Can you clarify what controller and DMD combination that you are trying to use? Are you trying to use a DLPC3478 with a DLP2010 device?

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi,

We are developing the custom PCB based on the 0.2 inch reference design. My question is if we can use the same PCB if we replace the DLPC3470 with the DLPC3478 and connect it with the 0.2 inch DLP2010LC. The point is whether we can use exactly the same design without any further modification, but using the controller and DMD.

    Kei Kim

  • Hello Kim,

This should not be an issue, but please allow us until the end of the week to confirm with our hardware team. However, as John mentions, you will need to pair the DLPC with the corresponding DMD. In this case the DLPC3478 will need to be incorporated in a system with a 0.3 inch DLP3010LC DMD.

    Austin

  • Thank you.

Sure, it would be a great relief if your hardware team can confirm this.

    Have a good day!

  • Hello Kim,

The controller and silkscreen are the notable differences. You will have to ensure that if you change controllers you also have to change to the appropriate DMD. I would also make sure that your LEDs are connected correctly as well.

    John

  • Hi John,

    Thank you for the answer.

My primary question is the following.

    - Can we use the existing PCB if we simply replace both the DMD (DLP2010LC->DLP3010LC) and the controller (DLPC3470->DLPC3478)?

e.g. you can imagine that we are using the TI reference design.

Also can you elaborate your answer a little bit more:

    - What do you mean by LEDs are connected correctly?

    - You have mentioned that the silkscreen is one of the differences, does that simply mean the reference PCB artwork is different?

    Thanks

  • Hello Kim,

DLPC3470 andDLCP3478 are pin compatible and you can reuse the PCB board.

What do you mean by LEDs are connected correctly?

    - You have mentioned that the silkscreen is one of the differences, does that simply mean the reference PCB artwork is different?

It should work fine as long as you use the right paring DMD (DLP3010LC & DLPC3478).

    regards,

    Vivek

  • It relieves our team a lot—thank you!
