DLP2021LEQ1EVM: Corrections to DLPU113A User Guide

Part Number: DLP2021LEQ1EVM

I recently purchased a DLP2021LEQ1EVM and have just powered it up for the first time.

Upon trying to follow the User Guide (DLPU113A - April 2022) I found a number of discrepancies.   Can you please advise when the User Guide will be revised to match reality ?

-----

Section 2.3 - Setup "Local Host Control" mode (EVM S1A=OFF, EVM S1B=OFF, SPI adaptor S1=OFF, SPI adaptor=OFF).   Only the Green LED is on, and the race-car video is displayed immediately (OK)

Section 2.4 - Setup "Host Mute" mode (EVM S1A=OFF, EVM S1B=ON, SPI adaptor S1=OFF, SPI adaptor=ON).  Both the Green LED and Blue LED are on (OK).   Point 4 states that the image should be "vertical color bars" however the race-car video is displayed (WRONG).

Running the DLP Control Program (Version 15.1.0.26) and with the FTDI cable connected to the EVM through the SPI Adaptor Board (as per Table 2-1) , the Connection screen does NOT match at all with Figure 2-4.

Figure 2-4 shows an SPI Command Interface with Clock Rate and Timeout parameters.  However the actual software display (left side of image) has a command interface that cannot be connected to, and a logging interface that can be connected to (via the FTDI cable).     PLEASE ADVISE what to do here.

How can the Command Interface be setup ?    Without a Command Interface, how can scripts be sent to the EVM ?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Geoffrey

  • After searching through the DLP Control Program some more ...

       > Select the Tab for "Product" and change to "Dynamic Ground Projection for Automotive"

Which changes the Command Interface to match Figure 2-4 !

Perhaps you could add the selection of the "Product" tab between Step 4 is Step 5 (of Section 2.4) to avoid this confusion.

  • Hi Geoffrey,

Thanks for pointing this out. Our experts will look it into this and let you know.

The response might be delayed since it is thanksgiving week.  Appreciate your patience.

  • Hi Geoffrey,

Thank you for the feedback. I agree that we should update our documentation to add the "Product --> Dynamic Ground Projection for Automotive" step, or update the software to prompt the user to select which product they are using as it is not immediately intuitive. I am glad you were able to resolve this though.

Regarding the local host control mode versus host mute mode start-up display contents, this user's guide discrepancy is a result of a recent flash binary image update which defaults the image/video start address from the color bars to the racecar video. In the previous flash binary image, the default start-up content for the host mute mode was the color bars image, which is why only the local host control mode would show the racecar video since the MSP430 was coded to change the FPGA's image/video start address and play the racecar video at start-up. Now, regardless of which of the two modes the HW to set to, the racecar video will show for out-of-box demo purposes. We will update the user's guide documentation to reflect and catch up to the latest default configuration changes.

What's more important to note are the state of the on-board LEDs, which indicate whether or not the FPGA initialized correctly in the expected state. The EVM appears to be initializing correctly in both modes based on your description.

For further guidance and how to use the EVM HW and SW, I recommend that you view the following videos:

(Note: though the video titles state the DLP3021 EVM, these instructions are applicable to the DLP2021 EVM as well.)
