DLP4500: can this module be used as a projector?

Part Number: DLP4500

Hi Team,

Good day. I am posting this inquiry on behalf of the customer.

"DLP® 0.45 WXGA DMD

Can this module be used as a projector?

I need a projector. Can DLP4500 meet my needs?

If it doesn't meet my needs, do you have any other recommendations?

There are two main requirements for the projector I need.
First, the volume of the projector should be within 10*10*5cm; second, the projection distance of the projector should be about 5-10 cm"

Please help to advise. Thank you for extending your support.

Kind regards,

Marvin

  • Hello Marvin,

Can you also let us know what is the resolution requirement and intended application?

    Regards,

    Mayank

  • Hi Mayank,

Thank you for your prompt response. Please see the feedback from our customer.

"My projection device needs to be placed in a volume of 10*10*20 cm, and the displayed picture also needs to be in this volume, so there are requirements on the size and projection distance of the projector. The best size of the projector is about 10*10*5 cm, and the best projection distance is about 10 cm. The resolution of the projector is not required for the time being, but the higher the better."

Please help to advise. Thank you for extending your support.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

When You say DLP4500, Are you referring to the LCR4500EVM or you have a custom board built with desired volume specifications?

    Regards,

    Akhil

  • Hi Mayank,

Thank you for your prompt response. Please see the feedback from our customer.

"I don't have a definite circuit board here. Do you have a suitable circuit board?"

Please help to advise. Thank you for extending your support.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hello Marvin,

If the client doesn't have a custom board I will assume that they intend to buy and EVM. We will have to take a look at the volume constraint. Do they need an HDMI port for their use case?

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

Thank you for your response. Please see the feedback from our customer.

"Port is not required at the moment. It can be HDMI or other ports"

Please help to advise. Thank you for extending your support.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

Thank you for your information. Please allow a few days for us to look into and get back to you.

  • Hello Marvin,

Thank you for your patience. The customer needs to analyze the use case and identify few key projection requirements. Please refer to the application note on " TI DLP® PicoTm System Design: Optical Module Specifications". This application note explains the optical module specification in detail.

TI DLP® PicoTm System Design: Optical Module Specifications (Rev. B)

Based on the customer input provided till now, it is very unlikely that an existing TI EVM or off the self-projector will meet their requirement. They need to build a custom system.  They can use the "Optical Module Search Tool" to identify an optical module(s) which could meet their requirement.  Work directly with the Optical engine ODM to source it.  Sometime Optical engine module manufacturer also provide drive electronics for their engine. They can either source from them or build their own.

I understand that size and throw ratio could be a critical requirement for this use case.  Please note that size of an optical engine /projector depends on mutiple factor like brightness, throw ratio. They can start with first identifying the brightness and throw ratio requirement. Use this information to shortlist optical engine in OMM search which also meet size requirement. Then choose the engine with offers best resolution (based on DMD).

Please let me know if you have any further question.

    regards,

    Vivek
