DLP4500: Question regarding Maximum Number of Patterns in Sequence Mode

Part Number: DLP4500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350

Hi, I have encountered an issue on using the pattern sequence mode with DLP4500.

I intended to display 128 images of 24 bit-width with pattern sequence mode (variable exposure). The images were fed from the video port, so I think they didn't occupy any space in the on-board flash. However, for the channel configuration (.ini file), the manual suggests the default maximum number of images [DEFAULT.PATTERNCONFIG.NUM_ SPLASH] should range between 0 to 63, namely only 64 images accepted by the system.

I'm wondering whether there's a method to increase the limit of this number by adjusting some parts of the board configuration. In case not, I'd also like to know if there's another practical way to implement such a substantial number of images. We're doing a set of sequential measurements, so we prefer not to separate the images into 2 or 3 sets but consider them as a complete set.

Thanks and regards,

Hank

  • Hi Hank,

Thank you for reaching out to the e2e forums with your question.

We will need some time to look into this.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Hank,

Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the board in any way to increase the size limit of 64 images. There is 32MB flash memory which is broken up between two external program memory chips.

Each chip can only be a max size of 128Mb due to the DLPC350 controller address bit and data bit limits so 256 Mb for two chips which is 32 MB.

This is from the DLPC350 datasheet so there is no way to use larger external program memory chips.

    Thanks,

    Alex Chan
