DLPDLCR230NPEVM: Can HDMI video output to a monitor, too?

Part Number: DLPDLCR230NPEVM

Hi.  Information contained within the DLP® LightCrafter (TM) Display 230NP EVM User's Guide both implies and explicitly outlines that video will be relayed via the ribbon cable to the EVM from the Raspberry Pi using the configured GPIO.  There's language which suggests that the EVM is the ONLY video output via the RPi and that a user must interact with it via a USB to a PC (or similar...?).  Furthermore, I'm reading the /boot/config.txt modifications as indicating that HDMI output to a screen, such as one which is typically used via HDMI-micro 0 or 1 to a monitor for the Raspian GUI, is disabled.

Is there any reason why the Pi cannot output to the EVM via the GPIO and also output to a monitor for convenience and user continuity?  Is there some way that this 'overloads' the RPi GPU or otherwise prevents 2 'displays'...?  If it is possible to use a 1080 monitor via the HDMI as well as use the GPIO for the DPI18 output, please let me know how to configure that.

Thanks,

Mark Schroeder

  • Hello Mark,

Usually the user will remote into Raspberry Pi with VNC viewer. With the TI provided config.txt, that would allow the EVM itself to duplicate what is shown inside of the VNC window on the EVM itself. That is TI's expected use.

I think you may have better luck with Raspberry Pi forums covering the topic of having two monitor with different resolutions and display timings. You might have luck with trying to find a monitor that has similar timings to what the EVM requires to get the HDMI port to work. I might be helpful to see if you can set two different timing configs in the config.txt.

    Regards,
