DLPC7540EVM: How to feed video signals via FPD-Link port to DLPC7540EVM

Dear Team,

I have a set of DLPC7540EVM+DLP650TEEVM evaluation platform in hand now.

When I tried to feed video signals via fpd-link port to DLPC7540EVM, it cannot be recognized correctly and there is no display on DMD.

What I have done:

1. fpd-link connection and electrical characteristics are checked.

2. HDMI to Vx1 input is checked.

3. FPD configration register is checked,

4.I tried to set "Write Source configuration"  based on what I got from Step 2, but "0xA excution failed" occurred 

So I cannot feed signal via fpd-link port now, and my questions are:

1. how can I find out whether DLPC recognized fpd-link or not?

2. or do I have to set relative configuration rather than waiting for automatically detection?

                 As I understand from your point 4, you mentioned writing the source configuration based on HDMI to Vx1 configuration, but this wouldn't be valid as the source configuration is automatically read based on the input video signal(FPD-Link) by autolocking the connected port.

                  Can you please confirm the EVM Display output when you connect the HDMI to Vx1 in without connecting the FPD link port. Similarly could you check connecting the FPD link input without the Vx1 connection and check if the autolocking is done.

                 Also, could you give some more details on the setup like what is the front end board used when you tried connecting the FPD link / Vx1 to EVM. What is the video source/signal used to send the data to EVM.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Do you mean source configuration cannot be modified because it can just only be read automatically from either Vx1 or FPD-Link board?

    When I connected HDMI to Vx1 front end board, display on DMD is no problem and source configuration registers are automatically set , just like you said.

    Although, DMD retain DLP logo (splash screen) when I connect FPD-LINK port and GUI cannot read source configuration registers, also I cannot modify them.  

    FPD-link source is NXP PTN3460I EVM board (OM13561JP), I am sure it works well because I already checked it with other LCD screen.

     

    It looks like FPD-link autolocking is not happened or recognized correctly for me. Do you have any idea?

    Hi Sherman, please connect a USB to serial converter to J102 on the 7540 EVM and send a capture of what it outputs during startup

    Just to make sure. Do you mean to read out COM port data from J102(RS232) ,  all the way from power on?

    Dear Team

    I tried three situations:

    1. no insertion (noinsertion.txt)

    2. vx1 by from front end board (vx1.txt)

    3. FPD-LINK from NXP PTN3460I EVM board for three times (fpdlink1,fpdlink2,fpdlink3)

    There are three fpdlink log and every one outputs data continuous without stopping.

    Is there any manual to explain RS232 data format?

    Log dumped above is in hexadecimal code. Do you mean change it in ASCII?

    I tried it and that will be unreadable because many of them beyond the ASCII Table definition as you can see.

    Or do you mean anything else?

    Please refer to below. fpd mode is 0x2, which represent VESA mode and data interface mode  for NXP demo board lvds signal output is a dual-port.

    I also tried other combinations of fpd mode and Data interface mode setting, although no good result.

    I had a period of personal leave and sorry to reply late.

    1. Yes, PTN3460I cant support 3840x2160 resolution. I test with 800 x 600 resolution, which DLP7540 should be supported.( also verified via Vx1 port in 800x600 resolution)

    2. I connect OM13561 and DLPC7540EVM via FPD-Link port(Open LDI).

    3. Have you already prepared the specific firmware? Looking forward to that.

    Yes, you are right.

    Output signal from NXP board is 8bpc, so only A,B,C,E,CLK lanes are used for both even and odd port.

    E lane in both even and odd port are not connected. (But this could not be the reason of undetectable problem of FPD-LINK, I think)

    There is no "Active Port Configuration" in my software (DLP EVM GUI (Advanced Mode), latest version: 3.1.0.6), how can I find it and any further information?

    Right now, the source video timing is following what described in DLPC7540 manual: 

    DE positive polarity, Vsync/Hsync negative polarity, CLK posedge sampling, 8bpc (24bpp), dual fpd-link.

    Is there any more configuration I should take care? and what do you mean by clock polarity  of ABC MUX?

    Hi Sherman,  I see that you have mentioned neither V*1 not FPD works with the new FW. Can you try invalidating the settings and then resetting the warp map by reading the output resolution and then recreating a warp map with 2*2 as shown.

          Currently the released FW supports the Following Configuration : FPD Lanes ABCDE and FPD Modes : 24Bit Mode 0 and 30Bit Mode 0 and Single Port A. Can you please let us know if your configuration matches with this? or do you have any specific configuration requirement?

    Hi Venkata Pavan Mahankall,

    I tried FPD-link with VESA single LVDS & VESA dual LVDS, neither succeed.

    According to DLPC7540 mannual, VESA is 24bit mode 0, LVDS single/dual can be set by GUI software.

    Also I checked LVDS CLK and LVDS data channel with oscilloscope and all of them seem fine.

    Basically, if LVDS CLK is correct, signal should be locked and there will  be something showing on DMD. 

    I will try your new firmware and reply to you later.

    This time with DLPC7540_DLP650TE_LED_P65_LED_FPD_June_28.img, also Vx1 worked but Fpd-link don't.

    I dumped the log and noticed that you set dual fpd-link & 30bit mode0/30bit mode1/24bit mode0/24bit mode1 auto detective one-by-one.

    although, all of them shows "digcontrol: ConfigureForSearch failed", which is different with previous result.

    Hi Sherman,

                Thank you for giving us the details. I have sent you an updated FW with single port configuration 24 Bit Mode 0 and Mode 1 with Clock polarity +ve and -ve configurations. Could you please give a try and let us know. In the mean we shall also create a setup and test the FW with FPD direct source.

    I tried the updated FW and different combinations of postive/negtive DE VSYNC HSYNC polarity, nothing changed.

    Please refer to the log.

    What do you mean by "polarity +ve and -ve configurations"?

             We have tested our EVM with shared LED Image and with a standard FPD link 5 lane ABCDE sequence dual port source configuration ,we were able to get the display on the DLP650TEEVM. As we understand from design team, we do support only 5 lane mode FPD link on our system, Is it possible for you to test with full 5  ABCDE lanes on both the ports. Also, could you ensure that J60 is populated when connecting the FPD link cable onto EVM as below.

    Do you mean it ONLY support 30bit mode(ABCDE) on any of the LED image you shared?

    It is little bit hard for us to find 30bit FPD-LINK source, have you tried 24bit(ABCD) single/dual on any of the image you provided? 

    If you can tried in 24bit mode, would you please share UART log when it succeed?

    As to J60, it is unconnected and I checked schematic diagram which shows it only supply 5V to motor driver.

    Is it necessary to connect it and provide 5V via FPD-LINK cable from outside?

    Hi Sherman,

                The LED Images I have shared does support both 24Bit/30Bit with Single Port and Dual Port options. But we do need to connect all the lanes without floating. I have shared an updated Image here which I have tested both for 24bits as well as 30bits but all the lanes ABCDE are connectedFlash_DLPC7540_DLP650TE_LED_P65_July_10.img.

    The J60 is used to power the FPD link port from the EVM if not connected to power supply from the Source board as below

    I will remember to pull unused lanes down to ground.

    In my env,  source board has its own 5V . So I will leave J60 unconnected.
