DLP6500FYE: Trying to control refresh rate of DMD, and possibly use as a high speed shutter.

Part Number: DLP6500FYE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Hi,

I am currently using a DLP6500FYE connected to the DLP Lightcrafter DLPC900 Evaluation Module. I would like to be able to precisely control the exact refresh rate of the DMD, the hope is that I i can expand a laser beam onto the DMD surface and cause the DMD to flicker from a complete in and off state so i can use that as a fast shutter. I have mechanical shutters that will go down to 20ms or 50Hz, but is there a way to control my DMD system in a similar way?

Say cause the DMD to show a white screen/ have all the mirrors "on" and then after 1ms turn all the mirrors to a black screen/ go to an "off" state? \

If there is anything I can add to help explain my question just let me know, also any info back is much appreciated!

All the best,

Dan Blackmore

  • Hello Dan,

Welcome back to the E2E forum. Thank you for your continued business!

While the DMD refresh rate cannot be controlled, there are a few ways to create a flicker. In the GUI, create a Pattern-On-the-Fly sequence that has a bit depth of 1. Load an all 'on' pattern and set the exposure time to 1000us. Then, load an all 'off' image with your desired exposure time.

A second method: Set the 'on' image to an exposure time of 1000us. Set dark time to the desired 'off' exposure time. You can set it to run once to act like an optical pulse generator or to run continuously as a chopper.

However, note that the DLPC900 will still perform the DMD reset every 105us regardless of your chosen exposure time. If your application is sensitive to this, it will affect the optical output signal.

    Best,

    Maxine
