DLP6500FLQ: Selection of Controller and Evaluation Board: DLPC900 or DLPC910?

Part Number: DLP6500FLQ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC910, DLPC900, , DLPLCR65EVM, DLP6500FYE, DLPLCRC900EVM, DLPLCR65FLQEVM, DLPLCRC910EVM

Dear all,

I have a question regarding which controller to choose for my application when using a DLP6500FLQ DMD: DLPC900 or DLPC910.

One main criterion for my application would be at what (effective) rate I can display larger pattern sequences of 1bit patterns (>10000 patterns). The maximum number of pre-loaded images is 400, is this correct for both controllers? So I would have to transfer patterns from a PC to the DMD. What would be the best way to do this regarding a high effective rate? Transfer via USB or via a video stream?

Could you clarify this questions a bit, also by comparing the DLPC900 and DLPC910 controllers? Which evaluation or development boards do I need?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Pascal

  • Hello Pascal,

The DLPC910 is very different from the DLPC900.  There is no pattern memory in the controller like there is with the DLPC900.  The DLPC910 only understands binary patterns that are sent from your attached front end (micro-controller).

If you wish to use the DLPC900 with the DLP6500FLQ, you will need to design and build your own DMD board.  We do not have an EVM for the DLP6500FLQ DMD built for the DLPLCRC900EVM.  Only the DLPLCR65EVM for the  DLP6500FYE DMD.

We do have a DLPLCR65FLQEVM that works with the DLPLCRC910EVM.  You will need a front end FPGA board.  The software for that platform was designed to work with a Xilinx VC-707 board which would need to be obtained separately.  The FPGA source code for the VC-707 board (Virtex 7) is available as part of the DLPC910REF-SW package available on ti.com under https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPLCR65FLQEVM#order-start-development.
