DLP4620S-Q1: Sub-frame rate and comparison to the DLPC900

Hello experts

I have a couple of questions about the DLP4620SQ1 DMD:

1. The DMD needs to be driven by the DLPC230SQ1 controller - is this device capable of receiving arbitrary 1-bit frames (similarly to the DLPC900) and then displaying those at the upper limit of the 10kHz sub-frame rate?

2. Would it be possible to connect the DLP4620SQ1 via a custom interposer board so that it may be driven by the DLP5530SQ1 EVM kit, and would the software support this? If so, do you have examples of scripts that could be use to set up the board appropriately?

3. What synchronization signals are available from the DLP4620SQ1 (or the DLPC230SQ1) to synch the displayed subframe with the illumination?

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello Stuart -

1) No, the DLPC230-Q1 controller was only designed to display content in a standard video format.

2) Yes, this is theoretically possible. With a custom DLP462x DMD PCB design that matches the DLP5530EVM controller board, the hardware is compatible. A new SW / FW build (intended for the the DLP462x device) would be required. TI can provide this FW build.

3) The DLPC230-Q1 and TPS99000-Q1 can output either RGB enable signals which are synchronized with the DMD bit plane colors, or there is also a SEQ_START signal whose rising edge is synchronized with the beginning of the video frame (VSYNC/FSYNC).

Following on from Question 1: What would be required to enable the display of arbitrary 1-bit frames? Would we only require a new driver device (a new DLPC203S-Q1) or is the DLP462x DMD simply incapable of displaying data from such frames?

Hello Stuart -

Unfortunately this is not a supported display mode for the DLPC230 controller. It was only meant to be used for standard display applications with a standard video stream input.
