DLP9500: DLP9500

Part Number: DLP9500

We got the DMD and found the laser spot is distorted to elliptic spot. However, this light spot is circle when they used the totally same one DMD before.

So, we want to know if there were some testing about the flatness performance about whole plane combined by all flat-state micromirrors when parked state ?

Or, when this problem occurs, could you pls recommand us how to solve it?

Thanks for your support.

Best regards,

Huang

  • Hello Huang,

I need to clarify some things:

    • Is this exactly the same DMD or same part number but a different DMD?
    • Is the incident angle the same for both cases?
    • Is this the same laser?
    • Is the DMD operating or parked?
    • Do you happen to have pictures of before and pictures from now?

The variation in flatness of the mirrors will not account for what you are describing.

  • Dear Fizix,

Yes, these two DMD are totally same, and also be used in totally same system at parked state. We think it just should just like one mirror.

So we are confused and we check this newer one seems functionally work well.

Attached pls find these pictures. Thank you!

    Older One

    Newer One

  • Hello Huang,

Thank you for the pictures they help.  Is this is the image of a single pixel turned on?

This looks like a far field image with no converging optics.  Is that correct?

I would like to consult with our optics team on this question.  Please allow a couple of business days to get their input.

    Fizix

  • Hi Fizix,

    Yes, these image is modulated.

Here I share you some other images as below.

    Older One, Far field

    Older One, Near field

    Newer One, Far field

    Newer One, Near field

We also used one mirror instead of DMD to check the laser spot on turn-off state.

    Mirror,

So, it seems the image is distorted very worse.

    Thank you!

  • Hello Huang,

Thank you again for the new pictures.

Let me now consult with the optics team on this.

    Fizix

  • Hello Fizix,

How is going on with this issues? Thank you!

  • Hello Huang,

They are still looking at this.  I will ask them again today.

    Fizix

  • Hello again Huang,

The optical team indicates there is not enough information here to make any significant evaluation.  They have asked for the following information:

    • Please share the optical system, wavelength of the laser and f/# and AOI of the illumination.
    • What is the parked state they refer to?  Are the mirrors flat?  Is this FULL ON STATE?
    • How much of the DMD active array of mirrors are being illuminated?  A single mirror?  If not, how many mirrors?
    • If the mirror array is being sub illuminated, try illuminated a different section of the mirror array and see if the results are the same.
    • When swapping DMDs, are the Far fields in the same location?
    • What are the serial numbers on the DMDs and which is the “good” one and which is the “bad” one.
    • The DMDs have a lot of tolerance stack up including planarity of the array to the mounting datums as well as mirror tilt angle variation which can vary from part to part and vary across the array.  The mechanical ICD for this part will show the mechanical datums and contain the tolerances for the array planarity and location.
    • What is the application?
    • What is “Near field” location.  Is this an image of the DMD mirrors?
