DLPC7540EVM: HDMI and Test Pattern no DISPLAY

Part Number: DLPC7540EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP650TE, DLPC7540

Dear Team,

I bought DLPC7540EVM+DLP650TE EVM+ITE6807 DEMO Board from TI,and programed the firmware download from TI webset(Flash_DLPC7540_DLP650TE_LED.img).

When I powered the board, the dlp logo displayed normal, but  when I connect HDMI source to ITE6807 board(input resolution is 3840x2160@60Hz ),the DMD display black color image, the same as Test pattern source channel.but the splash and SFG pattern displayed normal.

I have checked the EDID, the connector table config, and Actuator setting, that's all correct.

More info, when I enable the "Xpr Calibration Mode" thru DLP Control Program->Commands->Calibration page, both the test pattern and external HDMI source are displayed normal.

Why does this  status happen? what should I do next?

Thanks very much!

  • Hi Jing Miao,

Can you try invalidating the settings in the Administrative page. Also once reset the warp data in the manual warping page by reading the output resolution and then create warp map with 2*2.

  • Hello Team,

Maybe you are right! I only disable the Manual Warping in composer "Warping" page, the test pattern and HDMI source can display normal, so the EVM can work normal.

But our self-design board whitch changed the layout base on EVM design is still unable to display. the debug message tell us the source config and Apply Display are normal(as below), i also disable the Manual Warping, but dmd still display black color image. this is different to EVM.What's your suggestion?

  • HI JingMiao,

Can you please share the schematic you are using. Also could you share the complete UART debug data. Did you try testing any other sources 1080p etc.

  • Yes, I have tried other reolution source(1080P/WXGA/XGA),but this problems remain.

I'll send you the schematic files privately, please help to double check,Thanks!

and I will send the complete UART debug data later!

BTW, I have double checked the DMD HSSI congfiguration, the hardware design and software configuration are the same.

  • Hi Jing Miao, Is it possible to capture the complete UART messages from the power up. Currently it is displaying only the Connector switching status Also what version of Flash Image are you using for this test.

  • Hi, Maybe I find the reason: the eeprom whitch match the DLPC7540 is not work normal, i2c cannot read and write data from eeprom.

I burned  the TI release img into EVM borad, the eeprom also not work. the img version as below. I have checked the i2c address is correct.

Once power on, no any waveform output from DLPC 7540 ,any configurations shoul I to do ?

  • Hi Jing Miao, Could you read the System status from the Administrative page of control program and confirm the read status. One reason for EEPROM write failure can be the EEPROM Write enable pin being incorrect, can you check the level of EEPROM write enable pin. the default I2C port and address for EEPROM in the provided flash image is set as Port 1 and Address : 168 please check if you have programmed the same.

  • Hi, the schematic as below, could you help to check two points:

         1. I think the I2C addrees is 160(0xA0),not is 168.

         2. The PIN7 "EEPROM_WP" is low now, this status is write enable, right?

  • Hi Jing Miao, I have double checked that the project configuration is set as follows "I2C address for EEPROM is 168 on I2C Port 1, I2C address for XPR is 160 to be connected on Port2.

Yes driving the pin low/keeping it floating should allow write transactions on the EEPROM.

  • Yes, there is a EEPROM on PORT1, and i2c address is 168. BUT what is this EEPROM connect to I2C0 used for?

  • Another related question: How to refresh the eeprom data on EVM board? I changed some values in project Application Data map, build an burn in the img, re-power on, but the satus not update, remain the previos data.

  • Hi Jing Miao,

I shall check with the design team and get back to you by next week.

  • Hi Jing Miao, The EEPROM on I2C0 is to only for test purposes and no dedicated functionality assigned.

  • Hi Jing Miao,

The Eeprom configurations are not directly written with the flash data upon bootup. To store the EEPROM data after power up, user can send invalidate settings option in the administrative page as below. Then the Flash data is written to the EEPROM and retained from then.

  • Hi Venkata Pavan Mahankali,

Thanks for your support! I have find the cause of these quentions: we select the wrong eeprom chip for dlpc7540, so the appdata cannot write to the eeprom once power on, also the image processing data all are “0”(such as contrat、brightness、RGB gain....),that's the reason why the image display balck when i connect hdmi source or switch Test Pattern.

    Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for updating Jing Miao. Good to know that you were able to get things functional.
