DLPLCR65EVM: Device not working after a smoking situation

Part Number: DLPLCR65EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Hello,

I am writing to ask for a product return service. My DLPLCR65EVM was working under the instructed condition to the protocol, yet it started smoking (from one of the components) after a period of normal functionality (pattern change is clearly observed). After the smoking situation, the DLPLCR65EVM stops working. Under this circumstance, we are hoping that TI would approve our return request for a replacement.

Thank you for your time in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Michael

  • Hello Michael,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I would like to ask few questions on the matter:

    1. When was the EVM board purchased and from which vendor?
We provide a warranty of 90 days after the EVM is purchased from TI.com or TI-authorized distributor.

      https://www.ti.com/legal/terms-conditions/terms-of-sale/china.html
    2. May I know which component got damaged?

    Thank you,

    With regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Hello Aishwarya,

Thank you for the prompt response. The EVM board was purchased on the 18th of September. For the damage detail, the suspected component is the D1 STPS0540Z Schottky Rectifiers component. Since I bought the board from mouser, I would also like to know how the warranty service is being carried out.

    Thank you so much.

    Best regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Please excuse our delay--we are reaching out to someone and waiting for a response. We just want to let you know we are paying attention to your needs. If you are within the bounds of the warranty, we will try to get you a proper return. Please do not worry about "time running out" at this point, as the time you raise the issue is the time in which we begin to honor your return request.

    Best regards,
    Michael Ly

  • Hello Michael,

Thank you for the update. May I have the case number of my request so I can give it to Mouser (TI-authorized distributor) for reference.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Michael

  • Hello again Michael,

I will send you a friend invite on E2E to keep your case number private. May you let us know what conditions you were running the device under when the D1 diode began to smoke and how you were using the board?

    Thank you,
    Michael Ly

  • Hello Michael,

May I have the website link for the E2E so I can accept your invitation? As for the working condition during the smoking situation, the device is powered by a 12V 5 A power supply and it was working normally during first few tests. I am using the board with the DLPC900 Evaluation Module and using the software provided by the documentation to control the pattern on the DMD.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for providing me the information.

I am confused about your question, however. We are currently using the E2E forum to communicate. Here is my user profile if you would like to click the add friend button.

I will be closing the thread for now so we can talk privately.

    P.S.

I hope you do not mind, but I'd also like to add the following for other users that view this thread in the future. It looks like you have already gone through these channels, so I'd like to show others as well! Please bear with me on this aside.

For orders not directly bought from TI, you may go to TI's main site at https://www.ti.com/, click on Quality & reliability, then click Customer returns.

Scroll down to customer returns, and click the highlighted link for customer returns.

Scroll down the customer return page and select the purchase option that best describes how you purchased your TI product. In this case, it is Mouser, one of TI's authorized distributors, which you can find here in this link.
