Hi,

I would like to use DLPDLCR160CPEVM to do some experiment of structure illumination, in other words, I want to realize the binary pattern illumination. Is there such kind of application to control this evaluation board? Or some beta software which will do some help to let me using my PC to control the EVM directly?

Can you say what you mean by "binary pattern illumination?" Would this be for a scanning application or is there another use that you have in mind?

Thanks a lot for your reply! I would like to use some binary pattern which you can consider as QR code sequence to illuminate the object. Yes, it is a scanning application.

Hello Shan,

You would like to project a black and white image, such as a QR code, from the DLPCDLCR160CPEVM? The QR code would then be scanned by a user.

You can upload images to a micro SD card and then use them with the EVM. Images must be stored in an uncompressed, RGB565 format with nHD (640 x 360) resolution on the card from a computer before inserting in J1, the microSD card slot on the EVM. See the EVM User's Guide for details on this process.

Great thanks for your advice! If I use SD card, could I set the illumination frame rate? I would like to scan as fast as it can.

Hello Shan,

The microSD will be read at a set speed. The illumination frame rate has a maximum of 60Hz and is not related to the read speed of the SD card.

Hello Maxine,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Is there any way to control the frame rate of display? I found the EVM will take a speed around 1Hz, and it is not a direct display, it has some animation (fly in?). I wonder what should I set to make it illuminate as fast as it can?

Hello Shan,

The controller in the EVM is display image at 60Hz frame rate. The image from MicroSD card is read at slower speed. You need to use faster input interface like DSI to display at faster rate. Images in flash memory can be another option but input rate will be still slower.

Thanks for your advice! My issue is when the EVM display a figure, it automatically add some animation, just like using powerpoint to show some slides. Is there any way I could use to display the figures I set directly without any animation?

Hello Shan,

The DLPC3421, the micro-controller on the EVM, can accept frame rates up to 360 Hz. The controller will attempt to match the input frame rate within certain windows of an input video stream. As Vivek recommends above, you may want to consider streaming your content over a video interface. This would grant you a higher frame rate and more control.
