DLP470TE: a question about disclaiming the warranty on a defective dlp chip

Part Number: DLP470TE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710,

I use Fengmi 4K MAX projector as TV. The projector has an improved cooling system as it is 5000 lumens. The normal temperature of the dpl chip is 62°C without the enhancement versus 51°C with the additional fans installed at maximum lighting. The original chip lasted 1 year before white and black pixels started appearing. The failure was the result of a bad factory thermal pad. I ordered a new Chip here with the idea that I would get quality and warranty. also there was an update to these chips a year ago due to issues. The new chip lasted exactly 6 months before the first white pixel. 2 months later I have a second white pixel. However, my warranty was denied several times on the pretext that there were fewer than 10 pixels affected. At the same time, I read here that the 10 pixel feature only applies to blacks. White pixels are not allowed for the product. Is this true or not? After I put the question to the employee who refused the warranty, he still hasn't answered me. I feel cheated because the value for the quality just doesn't match. I could have bought cheaper from other sites... For me this is an unfair policy towards customers and I think the least you can do is give me an answer... If I had used the chip with the original cooling for that one year I would probably have much more than white pixels, because at such temperatures the chip logically has a factory defect. It makes no sense for your customers to invest €280+ every 6 months for chips...

  • Hello Svetoslav,

When you say that the warrant was denied, is that from the projector manufacturer or from TI.

We cannot speak for Fengmi.  Regrettably projector manufacturers are responsible for the warranties on their products including the DMDs.

Please let me look into this.

  • the chip was bought from TI here last year... TI refuses warranty with two white pixels, saying I must have at least 10 not working pixels/mirrors.

  • Hello again Svetoslav,

Regrettably that is the correct specification for this DMD.  From the data sheet section 6.11:

      <-- click to view

This particular DMD specifies that: "An out-of-specification micromirror is defined as a micromirror that is unable to transition between the two landed states."  It also specifies that no adjacent out of specification mirrors.

  • Please comment on your colleague's statement. Is this correct or not..

Your colleague's statement is that white pixels are not allowed in a device. Because I also know that black pixels are acceptable, but white ones are considered a major defect

  • Hello again Svetoslav,

These are two different DMD with different data sheets.  They have different warranty conditions.

The DLP4710 has the following array conditions in it's data sheet:

Whereas the DLP470TE has the conditions I showed in it's data sheet.

The warranty department can only go by the terms of the data sheet.

    I am very sorry.

  • Felix.. you refuse to help me because you at TI are frauds and I won't just let this go. 90% of your chips are warranty against white pixels, you have proven chips in the new products with white pixels and cut that part of the warranty. At the same time you take a guarantee to the companies that offer your products under different names.. This will become public, and you will lose a lot of my 280+ euros!!! I have had projectors for 7 years, 4 years of which a projector has been my TV and I can give you my middle finger and I will try to be one of the biggest haters in the future of TI. Your chips are rubbish, also the assembly.. paid 4600 euro Formovie 4k Max.. out of warranty you want to scam people with 280+ euro for half a year for DMD chips! then the new chip is junk again! all this will go to all sites and projector testers.. let's see how much you lose!

  • Svetoslav,

I am currently out of the office and have referred this thread to another individual.  I am sorry that you are angry.

  • Hi Svetoslav,

I am stepping in for Fizix and sent you a connection request.  Please reply back.

    Thanks,
    Jason

  • another one trying to void warranty... they are all looking for a way to void warranty!!

  • lunatics want to measure the light from the projector for warranty.. instead of the actual cooling!!!RoflRoflRoflRofl

  • Svetoslav, after discussion offline and in this case a replacement DMD has now been arranged.
