DLP2000: Logistical questions for DLP Pico products

Part Number: DLP2000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPM2000EVM,

I am currently working on my senior project which includes a heads up display. At the moment the display will be run by a Raspberry Pi Pico, but with future plans to make my own embedded microcontroller. I would like to use the DLP2000, but I've noticed an abundance of products related to it such as the DLPM2000EVM and other evaluation modules. In my incompetent mind I was just imagining needing the digital mirror device and a way to power it but it seems to be much more complicated than that.
Can anyone tell me which products I would need for a Pi Pico to communicate with the DLP2000. Preferably over I2C or UART given those are the protocols I'm using for the rest of my project, but I would be willing to learn another communication protocol if necessary.

  • Hello Michael,

Welcome to the E2E forums and we hope to assist you with your questions.

So the DLPM2000EVM is just the optical engine which is probably not what you want since there is no interface board or electronics board included. The full projector version with interface and electronics board is the DLPLCR2000EVM found here: https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPDLCR2000EVM. However this EVM is designed to interface with a Beagle Bone Black board as the host processor and not originally for a Raspberry Pi.

I would suggest the DLPLCR230NPEVM if you want to have a complete system you can connect with a Raspberry Pi however we validated and tested the DLPLCR230NPEVM with only the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
