DLP5534PROJQ1EVM: How can I change Display in Blue Color to RGB

Part Number: DLP5534PROJQ1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5534-Q1

Hello.

With this DLP5534PROJQ1EVM projector, I am having trouble. I first connected the module to the DLPC230 Control Program following the user instructions. This projector only projects in the color blue. How do I activate the RGB mode so that I may project and calibrate using a picture or video to meet my needs?

  • Hello Jaya,

I appreciate your question, please allow me some time to discuss with my team to more accurately advise you.

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Hi Jaya,

You may need to change the source in Control Program. It could be set as blue solid field test pattern. If it shows an image, but only blue color, that indicates there is probably a hardware issue like a damaged cable

  • Hello made4engineeringI attempted using an other test pattern generator in the DLPC230 Control Program Lite 1.8 Build 1242, but the results remained blue. I have been working with a brand-new DLP5534PROJQ1EVM for the past few weeks. I'm using the brand-new cables that TI sent me. Please provide an other method for fixing my problem.

  • I am not an expert on this product, but the product page for the DLP5534PROJQ1EVM would seem to indicate that this EVM has a 405nm blue light source and is intended for use with 405nm transparent window displays:

The DLP5534PROJQ1EVM evaluation module (EVM) is an automotive projector designed to support 405nm transparent window displays embedded with phosphor films. The DLP5534PROJQ1EVM speeds up development and reduces time to market by providing a high performance projector solution complete with optics, 405nm LED light source, and an adjustable throw distance. The projector is based on the DLP5534-Q1 chipset and electronics EVM.

405nm is blue.  Is there any documentation that indicates it also includes red and/or green light sources?

The user's guide indicates in the optical specifications only mentions 405nm; it does not mention any red or green wavelengths:

The user's guide also indicates that only the LED1 (J7) output is used; J501 (LED2) and J5 (LED3) are marked as "(Not used)":

All of the documentation seems to indicate that this EVM is a single-color 405nm blue EVM.  Am I missing something here?

    Regards,
    Gary

  • Dear Gary S

Thank you for Your clarification .

I could not see any  TI Training and Application videos for this DLP5534Q1PROJ to operate in RGB mode. I can see some videos with RGB, they don't do any setup. The Cable for LED 2 and LED 3 are given in the evaluation kit, but I am not sure of the connections. Could you help me to connect to the DLP5534 Expert so I can get more clarity on the LED connections. I want to present this EVM in color mode to my higher officials .

I am trying for a vehicle demonstration of this projector. Kindly help.

  • Jaya,

The documentation indicates it is a 405nm Blue light source; it does not say anything about red or green sources.  The documentation also indicates that LED2 and LED3 drivers are not used.

I believe this is a 405nm (blue) EVM, as indicated by the name of the EVM ("DLP5534-Q1 405nm projector evaluation module"); I do not believe it has red or green LEDs.

I believe the DLPC230 and the LED driver should be capable of driving red and green LEDs as well; but you would need a projector that has red, green, and blue LEDs.

Hopefully Aaron can conform all of this.

    Regards,
    Gary

  • HI Jaya,

What is the application here? You picked an EVM which depends on a phosphor screen which reacts with the UV LED to produce different colors. The optics in the DLP5534PROJQ1EVM cannot be fitted with more LEDs. If you need something with RGB LEDs, the more appropriate EVM is: https://www.ti.com/tool/DLP5530PGUQ1EVM
