DLPC4430EVM: How to output test images

Part Number: DLPC4430EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900, DLP800RE, DLP801RE, DLPC4430

Tool/software:

Hello,

So I worked through 2.2.3 in the EVM User's Guide. How do I go from this to outputting test images. I am not interested in duty cycles but rather be able to input an array of positions and have the DMD go to that. I checked out the GUI guide but it was only a couple of pages and was the same as 2.2.3

Thanks,

Christian

  • Hello Christian,

Please keep in mind that after completing the programming of the board, the front-end board needs to be connected. This is done through stacking the front-end board on connector J2. It doesn't need to have any input signal (HDMI) but it needs to verify there is a front-end board connected.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about

    input an array of positions

    , which 'positions'?

This controller does not allow programming your own external patterns, if that is what you're trying to do. The DLPC900 controller is capable of doing pattern-on-the-fly, which is external patterns.

All that being said, there are test images included within the DLPC44XX-GUI. If you've followed the steps in 2.2.3 you should be able to go to 'Projector Control' and section 'Display'. In this section you can change the Projection Mode to TESTPATTERN and change the test pattern to what you would like.

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Thanks. I now can use the test patterns in the GUI and it is working. I have yet to get the hdmi input to work. To do this in the display tab I selected projection mode: external and then connected a laptop to the hdmi port. Nothing happened. What should I try? The jumpers are all in the default configuration withouth the boot loader jumper.

    Thanks,

    Christian

  • Hello Christian,

That is correct, 'External' must be selected. At startup, the video input should be displayed by default after the splash image disappears if there is an input detected.

Can you check the display settings of your HDMI and see if there is any device connected?

    Best,

    Aaron

  • My windows computer can't detect an external display. Even when I use the detect other display feature in the settings. How would I go about solving this? My computer and HDMI work for other monitors

  • Hello Christian,

    Sorry this isn't working!

I think I've identified the issue, could you advise what DMD you are utilizing?

    Best,

    Aaron

  • I am using the DLP800RE but in the future I want to use the EVM with the DLP801RE

  • Hello Christian,

Thanks for the information, please let me test this first. I will need to assemble materials.

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Hello Christian,

Please send a photo of your setup - the system with the attachments - as well as one slightly angled to see the slash logo at start-up.

    Thank you!

    Aaron

  • Hey Aaron,

So I recently got the HDMI working when I used a Mac so I think my setup is good. This still doesn't work with my Windows laptop. Have people encountered their Windows machine not being able to detect an external display while another OS does?

    Christian

  • Hello Christian,

I have not utilized a mac to try to fix this. This seems to be an issue related to the front-end (possibly EDID). If you want this working with your windows machine, you could try reprogramming the EDID but you will need to have a connection of I2C communication through USB-to-HDMI conversion.

There is a guide within the DLPC4430 software bundle for EDID reprogramming that can be followed but the DeVaSys board is not available for purchase. This is something we look to update soon but is not possible for the time being.

If you do not wish to do this and are good to continue with your mac solution, please accept this as a resolution.

    Thank you!

    Aaron
