DLP670RE: How to correctly select DLP products

I want to select high brightness DLP product for our projector , I find display and projector DLP products in TI website, and I have some questions about how to select DLP products:

1、Is there a correlation between resolution and brightness、array diagonal？

for example，with same array diagonal,why DLP801RE max brightness is 13000LM，but DLP800RE is 7000LM ?

2、DLP780TE ，why the demo Evaluation board DLPC4420AEVM used FPGA?

3、Is there a selection guide for users？

1. If you navigate to the overview Display & Projection Products page you will see a table showing brightness vs resolution. TI offers a variety of HEP DMDs to serve different brightness ranges. Therefore, although they have the same array size, these different devices (DLP800RE, DLP801RE) are capable of different power density levels that are specified in the respective datasheets.

2. DLP780TE is a 4K UHD (3840x2160) resolution capable part. This means that data needs to be delivered faster to the DMD, so we utilize an FPGA to separate and then feed the right and left data to different controllers, i.e. the controller resolution it delivers to the DMD is 1920x2160 of the full frame data.

3. Please see #1 as this is a guide for selection based on desired resolution and illumination. If you would like a filterable table you can utilize the full Display & Projection Product table and filter by your desired brightness, resolution, frame rate and of course price.

Thank you，Aaron Black,actually, we prefer to use the solution without FPGA in main controller board,because it can simplified design.

I find DLP650TE,demo board is DLPC7540EVM +DLP650TEEVM, it didn't use FPGA, Is it the DLPC7540 internal algorithm that implements 4K data processing?

Hello Jianyong,

The DLPC7540 can implement 4K data processing up to 60 Hz, that is correct. The DLPC7540 is a high resolution controller and has much to offer as a solution.

I would recommend you compare the Function Block Diagrams (section 7.2) of both side-by-side.
