DLP500YX: Small form factor DMD+Controller (5.4 micrometer mirro pitch) for kHz binary live pattern projection

Part Number: DLP500YX
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900, , DLPC910

Tool/software:

Dear TI team and forum users,

I am looking for a small form factor DMD+Controller set that can display a live sequence of arbitrary binary patterns at kilohertz rate. The micromirror pitch needs to be 5.4 micrometers (or smaller) and the resolution at least 720p. (I posted a similar question about one year ago but did not find a suitable solution so far: e2e.ti.com/.../dlp4500-small-sized-dmd-solution-max-2-by-3-cm-for-fast-binary-pattern-generation-dlp4500-or-faster)

The models that I found so far (such as the DLP500YX in combination with the DLPC900 controller) are either limited in memory and do not allow a live sequence of binary images, or they receive live 8bit images and the decomposition into binary images is done internally (by the controller?), so that the content of each binary image can not be controlled by the user.

Please let me know if you have any information on systems that come close to the specifications written above.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Dorian

  • Hello Dorian,

You are correct that the DLPC900 system in conjunction with the DLP500YX uses the video input system so that you must pack an entire 24 bit video frame to send to the controller.  Once there each bit can be displayed independently, but you cannot stream bitplanes one at a time.

We have binary controllers, such as the DLPC910 controller, but none of the supported DMDs are 5.4 um pitch devices.

As before this does not mean that we will not in the future.  We are always working on advancements that will roll out in the next year or two.
