DLP3030PGUQ1EVM: Implementation Questions

Part Number: DLP3030PGUQ1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3030Q1EVM, DLPC120-Q1, DLP3020-Q1, DLP5530S-Q1, DLP4620S-Q1, DLP4620SQ1EVM, TIDA-080004, DLP5530PROJTGQ1EVM, DLP5532PROJHBQ1EVM

Tool/software:

I am planning to purchase and evaluate the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM.

I have a few questions.

- I would like to know the dimensions of the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM (external dimensions, etc.)

- I would like to know the circuit diagram of the DLP3030Q1EVM

- I would like to know the optical layout of the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM (Zemax data, etc.)

- I would like to know the environmental resistance of the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM.

Is it vibration and shock resistant enough to be installed in a car?

- What is the size of the display area on the screen?

- Can other DLPs be connected to the DLP3030Q1EVM?

Please answer.

  • Hello Arita Yoshiki,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

    1. Dimensions: Excluding the heatsinks, about 160 mm x 100 mm x 75 mm.
    2. You can find all hardware and optical design resources here
    3. I would like some time to find the vibration and shock resistance information for you. However, please keep in mind that the evaluation modules and PGUs provided by TI are intended for evaluation purposes only.
    4. The DLP3030Q1-DMD can display an image of resolution 860x480. I believe the projected image size, at the diffuser, is 70mm x 17.5 mm.
    5. The DLPC120-Q1 controller only supports DLP3030-Q1 and DLP3020-Q1 DMDs.
Have you also considered the DLP5530S-Q1 and DLP4620S-Q1 chipsets? They have larger set of features when compared to the DLP3030-Q1. You can see the comparison here.

    Thank you,

    Regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Hello again,

We do not perform any kind of stress/vibration tests on our PGUs. These are intended for new customers to evaluate the performance only.

    Thank you,

    Regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Thank you for your answer.

I checked "Resource Explorer" & "Other Chipsets".

    Additional questions.

-Is there an Outline for DLP3030PGUQ1EVM? (Not only the external dimensions but also the details)

    - Is the PGUQ1EVM's optical system "Low_Cost_Optical_Design_Example-Gen 1.5 HUD PGU"? (Not X-Plate?)

    Low Cost Design:

    X-Plate Design:

-Is it possible to connect other evaluation sets to "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM"? (For example, "DLP4620SQ1EVM")

-There is LED feedback control, which parameters are kept constant? (Brightness & Chromaticity?)

-What is the LED part number used in DLP3030PGUQ1EVM?

-I would like to try making the brightness higher with mono-green.

Can I change it to monochrome using software? (R33%, G33%, B33%→G100%)

  • ,

I have assigned the thread to an expert on the chipset. he will get back to you soon.

    Thank you,

    Regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Hi ,

What are you trying to achieve with the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM? This would help us decide if this is the right chipset or evaluation module (EVM) for you. As Aishwarya mentioned, there are a few other chipsets that have more features, but depending on your requirements and constraints, this may or may not be what you are looking for. Please let us know.

-Is there an Outline for DLP3030PGUQ1EVM? (Not only the external dimensions but also the details)

What do you mean by outline? What kind of details are you looking for? Just mechanical? More than that? Please be specific so we know what to provide.

    - Is the PGUQ1EVM's optical system "Low_Cost_Optical_Design_Example-Gen 1.5 HUD PGU"? (Not X-Plate?)

    Low Cost Design:

    X-Plate Design:

Are you asking if the low-cost design is not x-plate design? If so, I will ask our optics team if it is or not.

-Is it possible to connect other evaluation sets to "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM"? (For example, "DLP4620SQ1EVM")

The chipsets for these designs are different and use different DMD controllers. What are you trying to achieve? The DLP3030PGUQ1EVM consists of the DLP3030-Q1 DMD, DLPC120-Q1 controller IC, a C2000 MCU, and the projection optics. The DLP4620SQ1EVM, however, consists of the DLP$620S-Q1 DMD, DLPC231 controller, and an LED driver board. This has no optics engine. If you are asking about swapping the DMDs between these two EVMs, then that is not something either controller (parts prepended with "DLPC") supports.

-There is LED feedback control, which parameters are kept constant? (Brightness & Chromaticity?)

Depending on the application, this PGU EVM supports a high dimming ratio (brightness change), but the color duty is changed by Texas Instruments. You would have to request the color duty you want. Please let us know if/when you need this.

-What is the LED part number used in DLP3030PGUQ1EVM?

Here is a reference design link that contains the BOM. Linking it here so you always have a spare copy rather than sending it here. You can also find reference designs on the DMD controller IC's page (DLPC120).

I would like to try making the brightness higher with mono-green.

Can I change it to monochrome using software? (R33%, G33%, B33%→G100%)

This should be possible, but as I said above, TI would have to make this file for you.

    Regards,
    Michael Ly

  • Thank you for your answer.

We are considering a high brightness HUD(mono-green or color).

So, I would like to use "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM" to evaluate PGU using DLP.

Therefore, I would like to confirm the details of the configuration of "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM" and what it can do.

    >What do you mean by outline? What kind of details are you looking for?

    >Just mechanical? More than that? Please be specific so we know what to provide.

I would like to check the mechanical outline(drawings of the PGU).

    >Are you asking if the low-cost design is not x-plate design? If so, I will ask our optics team if it is or not.

I would like to confirm the optical system of "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM".

There are two types of optical system (low-cost design & x-plate design) in "Resource Explorer", but which optical system is used?

    >The chipsets for these designs are different and use different DMD controllers. ......

I wanted to see if it was possible to "swap the DMDs between these two EVMs". I understand that I couldn't do that.

    >Depending on the application, this PGU EVM supports a high dimming ratio (brightness change),

    >but the color duty is changed by Texas Instruments. You would have to request the color duty you want. Please let us know if/when you need this.

I wanted to know the feedback specifications of the PGU EVM.

Therefore, feedback on Chromaticity is not necessary for this evaluation.

    >Here is a reference design link that contains the BOM. Linking it here so you always have a spare copy rather than sending it here.

    >You can also find reference designs on the DMD controller IC's page (DLPC120).
    Thank you for teaching me.

I looked at the BOM, but I couldn't find the LED part number (only information about the LED CONNECTOR). I think the PGU EVM uses "Osram Q8WP and CSL series (described in TIDA-080004)", but can you tell me the part number?

    >This should be possible, but as I said above, TI would have to make this file for you.
     I understand.

We are considering an optical system that is less efficient than a normal car HUD.

Therefore, we need very high brightness and would like to try mono-green.

After purchasing "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM", can I request a file (for mono-green) to be created on this website?

  • Hi ,

Please allow us a few days so I can talk to the mechanical and optics teams regarding your questions. I believe I have found some drawings, but I will need to check for approval to share.

As far as the project file for mono-green goes, I can only provide limited support for now. We have only recently developed a mono-green project file with (again,) limited validation. We ask that your side help test these project files thoroughly and provide TI with your feedback.

    Regards,
    Michael Ly

  • Thank you for all your responses.

Please continue to consider the drawings and optical system.

    >As far as the project file for mono-green goes, I can only provide limited support for now.

    >We have only recently developed a mono-green project file with (again,) limited validation.

    >We ask that your side help test these project files thoroughly and provide TI with your feedback.

    I understand.

If you could send me the file (for monogreen), I will evaluate it with EVM and give you feedback.

  • Hi Arita,

May I ask you one more time what application you are using DLP for?

If you want  to be able to change color duty more freely without having to wait on TI for building these files for you with limited software, we would urge you to try out the DLP5530PROJTGQ1EVM or the DLP5532PROJHBQ1EVM. These use the DLPC230 with a 0.55" DMD (DLP553x). The "HB" version means high-brightness. There is much more support on these with software that allows you to access many more features. There is also siginifantly more training material on these options, as seen here in TI's Resource Explorer, TIREX.

    Regards,
    Michael Ly

  • Hi Michael.Thank you as always.

    >May I ask you one more time what application you are using DLP for?

I will explain in a little more detail.

We are mainly developing HUDs for aircraft, which require high brightness (mostly mono-green). We are currently considering whether we can achieve a high brightness PGU using DLP. Therefore, we plan to evaluate EVM (DLP3030PGUQ1EVM), which is a PGU using DLP. The "DLP5530PROJTGQ1EVM" and "DLP5532PROJHBQ1EVM" that you introduced are attractive as HUDs, but they are projectors and are not what we want to evaluate. We are asking a lot of questions about "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM" to see what we can do in this evaluation. Therefore, DLP change (SWAP) and mono-green are additional evaluations. If additional evaluation cannot be done with "DLP3030PGUQ1EVM", we would like to evaluate with another EVM in the future and eventually combine them.

    e.g.) PGU evaluation: DLP3030PGUQ1EVM

             mono-green&0.5inch evaluation: DLP5532PROJHBQ1EVM

             →a high brightness HUD(mono-green)

    Anyway,

if you can prepare a file to make DLP3030PGUQ1EVM mono-green for this evaluation (until December 2025), I would like to evaluate it.

  • Hello Arita,

Thank you for the information. This gives us clarity on your application.
I would like to bring out certain differences between the two chipsets, that might be essential for your application:

    1. The DLP553x chipset can be used to achieve a higher brightness and resolution than the DLP3030 chipset. See spec in the image below.
    2. The DLP3030 chipset while being automotive grade, is not functional safety qualified. The DLP5530S and DLP4620S are Functional Safety Quality Managed. See Reliability and Functional Safety Overview for more information.

We can provide a mono-green project for DLP3030PGU. Would it be possible to contact you over email?
(If you are uncomfortable sharing your email ID over the public forum, you could send a friend request to Michael or me, and share it over private messages.)

    Thank you,

    Regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Hi Aishwarya

Thank you for letting me know the difference between DLP553x chipset and DLP3030 chipset. This time I want to evaluate PGU, so I will evaluate DLP3030 chipset. I would like to evaluate DLP553x chipset in the next stage.

-We can provide a mono-green project for DLP3030PGU. Would it be possible to contact you over email?

Yes, email is OK. I hope to get the mono-green project.

  • Hi Arita,

I have sent you a friend request on E2E. Please accept it, and we will share emails accordingly.

I was able to get help in obtaining a step file. Please view at your convenience. The specific internal design of the PGU cannot be shared, though, as this was designed by a third party OEM. I hope you understand.

I will mark this thread as resolved for now, however, since we have provided answers to your initial questions and provided mechanical files and confirmed that we can change color duty cycle for you. All that's left on TI's side is continued support via email. Please continue reaching out to our team and please help share with us updates or roadmaps you are looking for. This way, TI can be aligned with when you may need updates rather then getting a request close to release time and missing a deadline.

    Thank you and regards,
    Michael Ly

  • Hi Michael

    Thank you as always.

-I have sent you a friend request on E2E. Please accept it, and we will share emails accordingly.
    I accept it.
Thank you for the step file. I have checked it.
Most of the questions have been resolved. I guess the optics is an x-plate design.

From now on, please answer the remaining questions (color duty cycle) by email.

  • Hi Arita,

I didn't realize you replied to this thread again. Yes, let's continue through email. I've shared with you my information if we can continue from there. Thank you!
