LightCrafter9000 Evaluation module D8(FAULT_STATUS) LED blinking

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Dear All,

I just started the LightCrafter9000 by following the user's guide.

But now , my LightCrafter9000 seems not to boot correctly and D8(FAULT_STATUS) LED blinks immediately after power-on.

Do I need the slave DLPC900 flash programming by the JTAG tool?

Would you please advise to me?
Best regards,
Rossinag
  • Hello Rossinag,

I have a few quick questions.

    1) Is your LightCrafter9000 able to connect to your PC?
    2) Can you describe the blink code that you are receiving from D8? How many times is it blinking?

    Best regards,
    Trevor
  • Hello Trevor,

    Thank you for your response.

    >1) Is your LightCrafter9000 able to connect to your PC?

    Yes, GUI "DLP LightCrafter6500 & 9000 - 1.1.0" shows the "Connected" status after LCR9000 power-on.

So my LightCrafter9000 able to connect to my PC.

    >2) Can you describe the blink code that you are receiving from D8? How many times is it blinking?

The D8 blinks periodically 5 times. But the last 5th blink  interval seems to be little bit longer than the others. Please see following illustration.

  • Hi Rossinag,

Thank you for your very helpful diagram! That was exactly what I needed. I would like you to try a few things:

    1) If you are able to connect your LightCrafter9000, try uploading a new version of the 1.1 firmware. It is possible that this will work and fix the issue you are seeing, but if you are unable to upload the new firmware through USB as-is...

    2) If step 1 does not solve your issue:
    a) Remove power from the LightCrafter9000
    b) Install the "HOLD boot mode" jumper (J12)
    c) Then apply power, this will power up the LightCrafter9000 in bootloader mode
    d) You should then be able to connect to it and re-upload the firmware.
    e) After the firmware is updated, remove the jumper and reset the LightCrafter

    3) If the above options do not work, let me know and we can discuss next steps.

Please let me know what the results are, and if you need me to clarify any steps, just let me know!

    Best regards,
    Trevor
  • Hello Trevor,

Thank you very much for your help.

I could upload the firmware by the "HOLD boot mode"jumper (J12) .

Now my LightCrafter9000 was updated to firmware 1.1.0 and it works fine!

    Thank you again,

    Rossinag

  • Hello Trevor,
[Now, same problem happened on the master DLPC900 and D6 is blinking. ]
After above recovering, I confirmed that the default patterns displayed after power-on.
And then ,I tried to display particular images by "Pattern On-The-Fly Mode" but the loaded image was not able to display.
After several times my trying ,finally D6(master DLPC900 FAULT_STATUS) RED LED became blinking.
The blink code is same as the former D8 blinking case.

I started to recover the EVM again but my LightCrafter9000 could not connect to my PC.
Therefore I tried to the ""HOLD boot mode" jumper(J12) and I could access the LightCrafter900 from my PC through the GUI now.
And then I am trying to re-upload the firmware.
But the GUI(DLP LightCrafter 6500 & 9000 - 1.1.0) crashes after uploading finished. And D6 is still blinking after the re-upload now.
Am I missing any steps for the recovering?
For above phenomenon, would you please provide advice?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Rossinag
  • Hi Rossinag,

We are looking into this problem a little further. I should have a follow-up for you in the next 24 hours. In the mean-time, I would encourage you to try to re-upload the firmware a second time (if you have not already), as I believe you are following the correct procedure.

    Best regards,
    Trevor
  • Hi Rossinag,

I have one more request, and if the error is not apparent after this, you may have to ship your board back under warranty.

Can you save the pattern sequence you sent (or tried to send) to your board. If you didn't save it at the time, you should be able to save it by clicking "Virtual Connection" and rebuilding it. After you click the Save button at the top, it should save as a text file. Then paste the text file here and attach the picture(s) you used.

    Thanks,
    Trevor
  • Hi Rossinag,

Can you also send the serial number on your board?

    Thanks,
    Trevor
  • Hello Trevor,
    Thank you for your reply.
I tried to re-upload the firmware many times, but the master DLPC900's FAULT_STATUS D6 LED is still blinking.
After recovering the former issue of the slave DLPC900's FAULT_STATUS D8 blinking, and then, I just followed the user's guide (www.ti.com/.../dlpu028a.pdf) section "2.2 Creating A Simple Pattern Sequence ". But DMD didn't display the images.
The following is the pattern sequence which I re-created now. The used images are included in the TI sample folder "./LCR9000_Images".
    Normal Mode
    0_Binary.bmp,1,100000,50000,1,0,1
    1_Binary.bmp,1,150000,75000,2,0,1
    2_Binary.bmp,1,200000,100000,4,0,1
I also tried to load the TI provided sample sequence "add_72.txt" without any modification and pressed "Start" button, but DMD didn't display the images. I will let you know the board serial number by different way.
I'm considering the return the board.
    Thank you and best regards,
    Rossinag
