Relationship between pattern exposure and mirror clocking

This question concerns the DLP Lightcrafter EVM

I am new to the forums.  Although I have seen many answers to questions about the maximum pattern rates possible for a sequence of binary images, it has been difficult to find answers regarding minimum pattern rates and the mirror clocking rates associated with these pattern rates.

For our application we would like to generate a static pattern.  If we set a pattern exposure time of 100 ms, are the mirrors fixed for this whole time (no mirror clocking pulse), or are identical bit planes loaded and refreshed many times?

Thanks,

David

  • Hi David,

Are you only looking to project a static image all the time or are you looking at the pattern sequence modes? I will follow up with the details of the mirror clocking pulses.

Could you also provide some details of your application? Can you tolerate mirror refreshes or do you need them to be fixed for the duration of the exposure period?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

I just found this post today and it looks like it might answer my question:

We wish to supply a custom pattern sequence and trigger it externally to hold each pattern for up to 1 second. During the exposure, multiple light pulses will be supplied (separate trigger). The different patterns will be used to modulate the light pulse train (e.g. on-on-on-on-off-off-off-off). From what I understand, there is a switching time and settling time associated with the mirrors following the mirror clocking pulse and we are worried about jitter interfering with our modulation phase. If we can hold the mirrors static (with no refreshes) for multiple light pulses, we think jitter can be better averaged out.

  • Hi David,

I'm glad you found Sanjeev's response. He did a good job of explaining some examples of how the mirror clocking pulse works for different use cases.

Thanks for providing some additional details on your application as well. Since you are interested in pattern exposure times of 1 second, you'll want to look into our extended pattern sequence mode. More details can be found in the LightCrafter user's guide.

    Thanks,

    Clinton
