Easy Question about Variable Exposure Mode

Can someone please explain to me in easy terms what is Variable Exposure? I am using the LCR4500 GUI, and I see there are two types of pattern modes.

Also, while I am looking at the code in Qt... why is the pattern mode denoted as "SLMode" in the software.
What does SL stand for?

Hi William,

In variable exposure mode, each pattern in your sequence can have a different exposure and period time. In the other pattern sequence mode all of the patterns will have the same exposure and period time.

"SL" in "SLMode" is likely a reference to "Structured Light" which is an application that commonly uses the pattern sequence mode features that our platforms offer.

So in other words...
Pattern A for 1 second and 100% LED current
Pattern B for 2 seconds and 50% LED current ???

Why is this useful? Can you provide an example?
Is a pattern the same thing as an individual image uploaded to the internal memory?
