DLP9000x: Can we use the FPGA and external circuit designed by ourselvs without the DLPC to operate the DMD, in order to get a higher speed?

Part Number: DLP9000X

Can we use the FPGA and external circuit designed by ourselvs without the DLPC to operate the DMD, in order to get a higher speed?

  • Hello Joblin,

In order to guarantee reliable operation of the micromirrors, we do not support or recommend operating the DMD without a DLPCnnn controller.

This is referenced in the data sheets by:

Reliable function and operation of the <DMD part #> requires that it be used in conjunction with the other components of the chipset. A dedicated chipset provides developers easier access to the DMD as well as high speed, independent micromirror control.

    -- and --

The <DMD part #> is a component of one or more DLP chipsets. Reliable function and operation of the <DMD part #> requires that it be used in conjunction with the other components of the applicable DLP chipset, including those components that contain or implement TI DMD control technology. TI DMD control technology is the TI technology and devices for operating or controlling a DLP DMD.

  • Hello Fizix,

Thank  you for your replye. Sometimes I only want to known operating the DMD directly without the DLPCnnn controller is achievable or impossible. Maybe to operate the DMD without the DLPCnnn controller is very hard, but if the possibility is existing, we want to have a try. So, can you give me an answer about the possibility?

  • Joblin,

Operating without a DLPCnnn controller is NOT supported and voids any warranty.

  • Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply. You have solved all the questions. Now I have a clear understanding about the DMD.

    Best Regards,
