DLP3030-Q1: Display on a classic window

Part Number: DLP3030-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3030PGUQ1EVM, DLP3030Q1EVM

Hello all

I am working in a big company in France and we would like to display a video on a classic glass.

We heard about the DLP3030-Q1 chipset used in automotive industry.

We would like to have a test with one of a TI projector, where can we found a projector like this ?

We found this product : www.ti.com/.../DLP3030Q1EVM

and this one : www.ti.com/.../dlp3030pguq1evm

What's the difference between those ?

Is this one http://www.ti.com/tool/DLP3030Q1EVM#2 is sufficent to diplay something on a window ?

Can I find a Ti commercial in France to show me these products ?

Thanks

  • Hello Patrick,

    Thank you for your interest.

The difference between these two EVMs is that the DLP3030Q1EVM consists only of electronics, whereas the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM consists of electronics plus LEDs and optics, which ultimately creates a projected image onto a 3.1” diffuser screen. Please refer to the DLP Automotive Chipset – Tools & software page for more details about the available EVMs, found here: www.ti.com/.../tools-software.html. The User’s Guides for each, document numbers DLPU056 and DLPU064, are particularly helpful.

However, if your application requires a direct path from the projector to the glass, then there may be better alternatives than the DLP3030Q1 EVMs. I would recommend that you search for consumer projectors for your prototype. They will allow you to simply evaluate DLP technology for this application, and they are typically cheaper and more readily available than our EVMs.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. We would be interested to learn more about the application and the optical architecture.

    Regards,
    Ross
  • Hi

    Thank you for your answer.

In which DLP projector is included the DLP3030 Q1 chipset ?

Does any DLP projector will be able to display on a transparent glass ?

    Thanks

    Patrick
  • Hello Patrick,

The projector in the DLP3030PGUQ1EVM is a proprietary design, built by own of TI's optical partners. This design is intended for customers interested in a prototype to evaluate the DLP3030-Q1 chipset for automotive head-up display production.

Typically, in order for a projector to display on glass, some type of film is required. The film acts as a "pupil expander" and is responsible for scattering the incident light rays in the direction of the viewer(s). A system without a pupil expander (e.g. sending light rays from a projector directly onto transparent glass) does not create a display. This is true for any projector, DLP or otherwise.

An example of a pupil expander in a transparent glass application is a holographic film. Do you plan to use a holographic film, or similar technology, in your application?
