DLP470TP: Illumination Optics Design for DMD Etendue

Part Number: DLP470TP

Hi, I'm an Optical Engineer working on the Illumination optics design for a client. I received a document about DMD Etendue for DLP470TP. (DMDEtendue) from my client.

I need to get some confirmation base on the information provided from the Document (refer to attachment)

Q1. The illumination rays after passing through illumination optics. The rays should be in collimated (parallel) or converging with 17degree light cone) when hitting DMD surface?

Q2. Understand that Illumination ray need to enter with 34degree of Flat state DMD. If 17 degree light cone required, the light enter direction still need to be 34degree, is that correct?

  • Hi Heng,
Please find response to your questions:

Q1. The illumination rays after passing through illumination optics. The rays should be in collimated (parallel) or converging with 17degree light cone) when hitting DMD surface?

Ans: Converging with 17 degree or lower when hitting DMD surface.

Q2. Understand that Illumination ray need to enter with 34 degree of Flat state DMD. If 17 degree light cone required, the light enter direction still need to be 34degree, is that correct?

Ans: DLP470TP is bottom illuminated TRP DMD i.e incident ray from long side of DMD. The 34 degree illumination is recommend irrespective of light cone for proper separation of ON state, off state and flat state light cone .

Please let us know if you any additional question.
    regards,
