DLPC200: DLPR200F Configuration memory

Part Number: DLPC200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5500,

Hello

I'm trying to design a board that is supposed to control the DLP5500 DMD and, as suggested by the datasheet, i'm using the DLPC200 as controller.

I have some question about the configuration PROM of the DLPC200:

The DLP® 0.55 XGA Chipset Data Manual ( document DLPZ004B )  suggests the usage of a flash eprom that is supposed to contain the configuration of the dlpc.

In order for the dlpc to work, i am supposed to program the flash memory with the provided firmware, correct ?

How am i supposed to program such memory ? i have to provide some entry point on the board ?

How many other non - volatile memories do i need to make the dlp5500 work properly ?

Thanks

Federico

  • Hello Federico,

There is only one flash that is absolutely "required" for operation. It is the configuration flash for the DLPC200 that you are asking about. The other is a small Flash for the Cypress USB if you plan to use USB. You can use the SPI interface, then USB is not required. However, SPI is quite slow when loading images up to the DDR2 memory.

The main Parallel Flash is needed only if you plan to store solutions on board. If not they can be loaded over USB or SPI.

As far as the file for the main configuration Serial Flash, this file is intended to be programmed externally before mounting the flash to a board.
There should be shops around that will program it for you or you can buy a simple USB programmer (and chip clip) and program it.
