DLP4500NIR: Selectively Park DMD Mirrors

Is it possible to selectively park a subarray of micromirrors on the DLP4500, or any other DMD arrays? I am hoping to leave a (potentially arbitrary) subset of the mirrors in the array in the parked position, while addressing the others. I only need to change the subset of parked mirrors at low rate (i.e. a few times a second).

If this isn't supported by existing controllers, is this theoretically possible with a custom driver board? i.e. can the DMD hardware support this kind of operation, or is parking a global operation that's baked into the device?

    This is not something we currently have available and I think there would be certain device hardware limitations with this approach. Could you better clarify the reason you are asking for this feature? That may better help pointing you in a suggested direction.

    Sorry I missed your first response. I can't talk in detail about my application, but I'd essentially like to get a poor man's 'third state.' Incoming light will be incident on the normal of the DMD, and selectively directed to the two primary angular states. I want a third state purely for the purpose preventing light from reaching either of the other two primary states. I don't need a high update rate for the third state (several times a second), and the state does not need to have high angular stability.  That's why I thought selectively parking mirrors could be a unique solution.

    I'd be interested to hear about what modifications would theoretically have to be made to the driver hardware or dmd chipset itself. Developing a custom board wouldn't be impossible for my program.

    Unfortunately this is not something we can support. The DMD is intended to be a bistable device. I have sent you a friend request on E2E in case you are able to go into any more detail in a non-public setting.
