DLPLCR9000EVM: JTAG chain not seen

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

The "DLP LCR GUI" unfortunately crashed on us while flashing a new FW.

After that the DLP9000 slave wasn't responding anymore (see attached DLP900_master_dbguart3.log).
And prevents any new action from the GUI.
So we quickly bought an um232H board to try reflashing the DLP9000 slave by JTAG, by following precisely the procedure from dlpu028c.pdf.

Unfortunately the "JTAG Flash Programmer" complains that the chain is not seen.
I've logged the waveform and attached the VCD file as well as analyzed description.
Any Idea of what happened and if there is a way out this ?chain_issue.tar.gz

  • Hi Alex,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI - E2E Forums and thanks for your question!

In the 6500/9000 EVM Users Guide, there are actually a couple errors with the JTAG Flash Programming section 3.10 specifically concerning the DLP9000 that require the following changes:

    1) Rather than jumper J10, you will need to install bootloader jumper J12 (located in the center of the board).

    2) You may also need to populate R118 (0 ohm/short) and unpopulate R117 to properly use the JTAG boundary scan on the 9000EVM. This is also located near the center of the board.

Please let me know if JTAG Flash Programmer works after these changes. We are currently working to update this documentation to avoid future issues and apologize for the inconvenience.

    Best Regards,

    Taylor

    Hi Taylor,
Thanks a lot for your kind reply. The method described in dlpu028c.pdf actually works (even when using J10 instead of J12 as you suggest).
My problem is that I made a mistake by connecting TDI to TDI on my paper reference... and kept checking toward that wrong setup.
    Really my bad, sorry.
(indeed R118 needs to be populated and R117 shouldn't.... this is not in the doc, but the board was already in that state)

And I also have to underline for anyone looking at that post later on. You need to bring back both master and slave to bootloader only.
Otherwise the GUI complains and refuses to flash.

    Thanks again,
    regards,
    Alex
