LightCrafter 4500 not detected by OS (Windows 7, XP)

Hello,

our LightCrafter 4500 cannot be detected through the HDMI connection neither by Windows 7 (NVIDIA Quadro 2000M) or Windows XP (ATI Radeon HD 5800). An apparently similar problem was reported for the smaller LightCrafter here

http://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/f/850/t/171680.aspx

With my Nvidia setup, I tried the work-around proposed by in this thread (changing the registry to enforce display detection). With that workaround it worked for some hours, before it stopped for no obvious reason. When I try to stream video, the LightCrafter continues to display what has been set latest (e.g., an internal test pattern). In the GUI I selected Parallel RGB and 24bit. The "Buffer Freeze" is yellow all the time in video mode. I also tried to adjust the "display dimensions" box. When I set the native 912*1140, it gets back 912*800, or sometimes 1200*800, however, the adjustment has no visible effect. Pattern sequence mode with images from flash still works, but with external patterns from video input nothing is displayed. I'm using a new HDMI to mini-HDMI cable, I tried also combinations with a DVI to HDMI adapter, but with no luck.

What does the buffer freeze mean? What can I do to enable the detection through HDMI? Is there a comparable Solution (updating the EDID) as mentioned in the linked thread?

Best regards,

Florian Bayer

  • Hello Florian,

It sounds like you have your LightCrafter 4500 setup correctly. Could you send me a screenshot of your computers resolution settings? I wonder if the computer's resolution settings are incorrect. They should also be set to 912x1140.

    Best regards,

    Blair

  • Hi Blair,

the problem is that the projector is not detected at all, so there is no resolution I can adjust besides the one of my main screen. Sorry german screenshots only, I cant change the language by myself now.

However, using the registry modification described in the other thread one can force the graphic card to assume there is another display. Then another non-defined display appears:

Its resolution was set manually by myself via the Nvidia control panel. With that, at least video mode worked properly (timing in pattern mode seemed to fail). In video mode I could even adjust other resolutions than the native one. But it worked only for a few hours and stopped doing so without an obvious modification from my side. It appears that the registry modification was not a very stable solution, and at the moment it's not a solution at all. However, because it worked for a while at least the cable or adapter seems not to be a problem.

With the XP/ATI setup it was the same: no display was detected, so no resolution could be set.

I also uploaded the current firmware again, but it didn't help.

    Best,

    Florian

  • Hi Florian,

Thank you for your detailed description of the problem. I have not seen this issue before, but I will ask some of my peers and hopefully find an answer for you as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

    Blair

  • Hi,

thank you. I will try another cable and graphic card at the weekend.

    best regards

  • Hi Florian,

Here's a software tool which reads the EDID registry information on the PC. You can download the free software here:

    http://www.extron.com/product/software.aspx?id=edidmanager&s=5#feature113711

To start, delete the LightCrafter 4500's EDID registry entry from the PC and then connect the EVM. If the computer detects the EVM the EDID is intact. If the computer does not detect the EVM, the EDID could be corrupted.

Let me know what happens after you delete the EDID registry.

    Best regards,

    Blair

  • Hello,

I am having the exact same issue as described in this thread:  Running Win7 Ultimate, I am able to use the GUI to control the LCR4500, but I am unable to get HDMI throughput working.

I also have an older Lightcrafter so I tried the USB and HDMI cables on it as a sanity check, and I was able to get a desktop display on the older Lightcrafter.  This indicates that the cables should be fine.

I also downloaded and installed the "EDID Manager" and I can see an entry for DLP5050 (Active) for the older Lightcrafter.  However, when I plug the HDMI cable into the LCR4500, I never see a new entry being added for it in the EDID Manager.  Likewise, if I right-click on the desktop to go into the Screen Resolution and click "Detect", nothing happens.

I've tried setting the LCR4500 to Video Mode + Parallel RGB (24 or 30 bits) but nothing happens.  I also tried Pattern Sequence + Video Port but was unable to accomplish anything useful (projector displays nothing).

It seems like the LCR4500 just isn't sending its EDID information to the PC... it doesn't seem to show up in the EDID manager, so there is nothing to delete in the registry (I think).

The GUI is version 1.2.0, the firmware is 1.1.0.  I can't think of anything else to try.

  • To add more info:

I tried installing Win8 on another partition to see if I could get that to show the desktop wall paper via HDMI.  No luck.  I was also unable to run the GUI tool as it just gives me an error message saying that MSVCR100.DLL was missing.  I ran dependencywalker on the GUI .exe to find that IESHIMS.DLL is also missing.  So I gave up on trying to run the GUI tool under Win8...

The EDID Manager also didn't show any new EDID entries in Win8.

I'm actually starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the HDMI port itself...  is there a test I can run to validate the HDMI port?

  • Good news:

I tried another cable and it worked. The display is detected immediately. It works at several resolutions. Pattern sequence with video input also appears to work fine.

It's a bit odd that the other cable at first worked at least under certain conditions and then stopped to do so. It was a HDMI to mini-HDMI cable "with Ethernet", quite expensive, about 5 times the price of the cable I'm using now. The cable that works for me:

    Good luck!

  • Hello,
I had the same problem! I use a High speed HDMI to mini-HDMI cable "with Ethernet" E119932-T AWM Style 20276 and it works.
