DLP 6500 EVM software stopped recognizing the DLP board

Hello,

I've been using my DLP lightCrafter 6500 EVM for several months now without a problem. The other day while I was in "Pattern on the fly mode" it suddenly switched to Video Mode and started to display the error message "Unable to switch from Memory Mode. Error: Controller/DMD Incompatible" and the status checkbox Controller/DMD Incompatible got checked.

I tried to unplug it, reinstall the software and uploading the .img file in the configuration bundle available here:

The board seems to be working well though... (no red light and the green Led is turning on and off.

I don't know what else to try... I hope you can help me.

Thanks,

  • Parastoo,

Sorry you're having difficulty with your LCr6500. Can you help clarify your issue for me? Updating the FW is a good first step - which it looks like you did. Even after updating the FW you get the same error? Or it simply doesn't connect any more to the GUI?

Have you modified the Lightcrafter at all? Are you using custom code?

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul

Thank you very much for the reply. I am working with Parastoo.

We already updated FW and it gave the same error "Controller/DMD Incompatible" (the board seems fine and it is recognized by the software).

We have not modified the software and the issue happened in the middle of our work (we noticed the problem when the pattern was unchanged).

Can you provide for me the version numbers of the GUI and FW?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • In reply to Paul Goedeke:

    GUI is DLP LightCrafter 6500 & 9000 --- 2.0.0

    FW is 2.0.0
    Tag: DLPR900PROM-6500-v2.0.0

    Amir,

This issue sounds like an SCP bus connection issue. Can you probe the SCP_DO, SCP_DI, and SCP_ENZ lines on the EVM? Has the hardware been modified at all? Are the connection ribbons seated correctly in their connectors?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • In reply to Paul Goedeke:

    Thanks Paul,

I will check the connections and let you know. How do you recommand to probe the SCP_DO, SCP_DI, and SCP_ENZ lines?

    Amir,

Can you please tell me if the hardware has been modified?

I would recommend that you download the reference design for the Lightcrafter 6500 - this will give you the schematics for the board and let you know where to probe for those signals. They can be found here: www.ti.com/.../tida-00362

    Thank you Paul

I'll take a look to the design and start probing the lines asap.

The only hardware modification was a jump across in J22 between pins 1 and 2 to set the triggering output voltage level to 3.3 as indicated in section 1.2.3 of the user's guide

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Amir.

    Amir,

I'd like you also to inspect the flex cable on the EVM. Is there any damage? Is the flex cable tightly curved?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • In reply to Paul Goedeke:

    Good morning Paul,

I replaced the EVM cable with a new one and it worked. Thanks again.
