DLPNIRSCANEVM: Is that possible to use DLPNIRSCANEVM or DLPNIRSCANNANOEVM as components for near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy instruments that can generate wavelengths of 700nm-2500nm?

Part Number: DLPNIRSCANEVM

Hi,

I'm wondering if I can use DLPNIRSCANEVM or DLPNIRSCANNANOEVM  as a core component for a near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy instrument that can generate wavelengths of 700nm-2500nm? This instrument is intended to use for soil analysis.  If it can be done, any directions on achieving this would be very helpful.

If it's not feasible, is there any other combination of TI DLP+DMD product with anything else that can be used to create a near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy instrument that can generate wavelengths 700nm-2500nm?

Thanks for any insights.

  • Hi Andrea,

Welcome to the DLP Forums and thank you for your question.

The DLPNIRSCANEVM is capable of the range you are asking about. In the design files for the EVM we have published the design for a reflectance head which replaces the transmissive unit on the EVM as sold. Using the reflectance head will help you accomplish your goal. You can find those files here: www.ti.com/.../tidc293c and the main page for the design is here: www.ti.com/.../tida-00155

I hope that helps - let me know if you have further questions.

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry, I missed an important factor in that I need an EVM that is reflective instead of transmissive. DLPNIRSCANEVM is transmissive. So I cannot use it.
DLPNIRSCANNANOEVM is reflective but only covers wavelength range 900 - 1700 nm.

So looks like neither DLPNIRSCANEVM nor DLPNIRSCANNANOEVM can be used to achieve my goal, which is an EVM that can cover entire wavelengths range from 700nm to 2500nm.

Let me rephrase my question. If I want to create my own EVM that is reflective & able to cover wavelengths range from 700nm to 2500nm, is there any combination of TI DLP+DMD products that can achieve this? If so, is there any company that has done the legwork (e.g. optical design) for this?

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi Andrea,

We have published the design files which allow you to build a reflective head for the DLPNIRSCANEVM. They are in the link above. If you use that reflective head, those electronics will cover the range that you are looking for.

  • Andrea,

Please contact us here and we can follow-up with you on a possible approach.

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for your help before. I have a follow up question.  We are aware of that we are able to achieve our goals using DLPNIRscan.

I want to confirm with you whether we can use DLPNIRscanNano to achieve 700-2500nm range as well.   Since DLPNIRscanNano is already reflective head, is there anyway we can increase its wavelength range?

    Thanks again for your help.

    -Andrea

  • Hi Andrea,

Unfortunately adapting the NIRscan Nano to the wider wavelength range isn't possible with its current configuration. The optics and detector are optimized for 900-1700nm and it would take a redesign effort to get the wavelength range you're looking for.
