DLPLCR6500EVM: Controller/DMD incompatible error

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

Hi all,

I'm trying to connect TI lightcrafter 6500 EMV board to a computer through USB. It worked before. But suddenly the GUI reports controller/DMD incompatible error (See attached fig). The status of DMD board is always standby and I can not switch between the different modes. When I'm trying to switch that, it reports unable to switch to video mode. I have not done anything different to the board. And I believe the board looks fine, at least no visible damage. I'm a beginner, so kind of have no idea how to deal with this problem. If anyone can give me some clue, I'd really appreciate that! Thank you!

  • Hi Yina, and welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E community. To help assess our best course of action I need to ask a few questions.

The screen shot you attached shows it is in Standby but does not show indication of the error message you mentioned. Have you tried cycling power off for 30 seconds and turning it back on - do you get the error message?
You mentioned you have been using this setup successfully before - approximately how long was it working?
    When was the unit purchased?
Have you removed and then reconnected either the DMD, DMD board, or flex cable?
if you visibly look at the DMD, can you discern any patterns on the mirror array? If so, a picture of the DMD mirror array might help.

Let's start there and we can follow-up afterward.
  • Hi Bosun,

    Thanks for you reply!

The screen shot does show the EVM is in standby mode, but in the status column, it shows controller/DMD incompatible. I have tried power it off and turning it back on several times, he error message is still there.

I purchased it at the end of Jun this year from Digikey. In the past one and a half month, I had tried connect it to a computer just several times, it worked.

I have not disassembled the EVM, the only thing I have tried is connecting power and USB.

With the error message, when I power it on, there is no patterns showing on the DMD.

Here is three more pics, one shows the error message, the other two shows the controller board and DMD.  The lights on the controller board all indicates it's functional though.

  • Hi Yina,

Thank you for the information. We are investing this at our end. I am going to send you a friend invitation to get some more specific information from you.
