DLP9500: DLP9500_projection problems

Part Number: DLP9500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC410,

Some projection problems occured accidently in customer's site: there are 5 DMDs in one machine, and problems randomly occurs on one of 5 DMDs for about every 2 days. Every time there is a problem, one of the thousands of PCB boards on the customer site has a problem. The graphics projected by DMD are correct overall, but there are more thin lines, resulting in incorrect graphics.

1:This machine had been put into use for almost 1 year, and no problems occured ever since install, And many other equipments of our company also use the Same fpga logic control board and 4100 DMD control board ,
They did not have this problem。So please don't doubt the problem of fpga timing control.Or the problem with the hardware part of the 4100 DMD controller.
2: After this problem happened, we changed all the circuit boards in front of all the 5 DMDs, including fpga logic control board and 4100 DMD control board. Even under the same way of control, projection problems still occured.
3:At last we changed all the 5 DMDs, then projection errors no longer occur.
With the test consequences above, we think that there're some problems with DMDs.but since errors occured accidently on every single DMD, it's hard to prove in our lab, so we need DMDs returned back to the original plant for long term test.

  • Hello Zhang,

First, welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E forums.

I would agree with you, that since the system was running for almost a year without issue that this is not an FPGA / DLPC410 timing issue.

Let me ask a couple of questions to make sure I understand correctly.

Are these boards the TI-EVMs or a board of your own design (either in house or by a third party)?

How are the thin lines oriented with respect to the DMD active array? (You may need to reference the DLP9500 data sheet for orientation).

When you changed the DMD boards (in step 2), did you clean the contact pads on the back of each of the DMDs?

  • Hi, Fizix, Thank you very much for your answer.
On this issue, we have been communicating with Carey via email in recent days. The details he has mastered, we have now started the FA process. Thank you`
  • Hello Zhang,

Since you are going through the FA process, I am going to mark this as resolved. Please mark it confirmed so that the thread will close out.

    THANKS!
